Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and can give me some advice. Long story short, a month and a half ago i got a strange burning sensation on my tongue while driving home from visiting my mother in the hospital.. i was going through a lot of stress. I picked up taco bell and ate one hard shell taco and the pain started..
a week went by and i seen my family doctor who said it was thrush and prescribed me nystatin.. after 2 days of taking this medication my mouth blew up. White tongue, the roof of my mouth was inflammed, burning, itching, you name it. After a week of taking Nystatin i was told to stop because it wasnt doing anything but making it worse. i was rinsing with salt water and baking soda and water... i even tried diluted apple cider vinegar (something i read online)
i went to the emergency room as the symptoms persisted.. they told me to just continue salt water and that it didnt look like thrush...
i went to see my dentist who said "its definitely bacterial, but you also need your wisdom teeth out" and prescribed me a week of antibiotics. After the antibiotics the burning stopped but there is what it looks/feels like bumps on the back of my tongue.
Talked to a nurse practitioner after another week of this weird feeling and she prescribed me acid reflux meds "pantoprazole" which i have been now taking 3 weeks. She also referred me to an ENT.
Seen an ENT and he said everything looks fine and that he didnt want to give me an unnecessary biopsy if he didnt have to and to continue salt water/baking soda water and taking the acid reflux meds.
its now been another week and the taste buds on the back of my tongue are just annoying feeling. They almost feel inflammed and sharp as touch the roof of my mouth. my tongue looks as though there are gaps in between the taste buds and its almost like food gets stuck in them. i brush my teeth twice a day... eat bland food.. no carbs, sugar, fast food, high fat foods. no pop, or anything carbonated. i dont smoke or take any medication other then pantoprazole and occasionally ativan for a panic attack. i occasionally have a social alcoholic beverage.
I have been given blood work as well and everything came back normal. i am also taking vitamin b 100 and probiotics. I genuinely dont understand what is wrong with me other then this is making me absolutely MISERABLE!!!! The only time i dont feel it is when im eating. i also wake up in the morning with a gross taste in my mouth. im so sick of this. If anyone has ANY suggestions or ideas.. i would forever be thankful. this is ruining my life.

So sorry you are going through this. Could you go back to your dentist and ask for further advice (seeing as the antibiotics seemed to help initially)? You're not chewing your tongue with the stress are you and making it sore?
