    Hi Ruth

you may have just done too much too soon. You are still healing

2 1/2 miles at 9 weeks is a lot. This is not a race and it will take up to a year before you are fully healed.

    Take take time to rest

    Hi Ruth,

    Greetings from Exeter, Devon.....

Now, i think a 2.5/3 mile walk at 9 weeks is great, especially if you can walk with awareness - looose shoulders and relaxed even steps. I did a similar thing, and find my i-phone step-counter really useful here.

But, I wouldn't advise doing this more than once or twice a week, at nine weeks, and as Hailea says plenty of rest too. don't forget to go through the gentle exercises you were given, at home yourself on the floor, though yes what a pain your notes werelost. Do get that possible pulled muscle checked out if it still bothers you....

we didn't have any physio offered here, but I've been doing Alexandra Technique  lessons  to get my walking confident, smooth and fluid. I ask a couple to friends to check I'm not limping too, and they say defo not. Now, at ten months, I'm resuming 30 min aweek with my Personal Trainer at the gym too.

Good luck regraining your fitness and exercise, slow but sure!

I did something like that aroung the 2-3 month mark - after doing lots of walks about 1-1.5 miles i did one 3.5 and suffered with lots of aches and pains. Some as a result of the op and some because my muscles had not done so much for years because of the bad hip before the op. As the others have said I just had done too much too soon. I didn't do another long one for some time!

Know how you feel. Went to London for the weekend and walked for miles and miles. Muscles complained over the next couple of days, but recovered now. I just equated it to going to a keep fit class or gym after a long layoff. My op was in April

That's not a bad length walk for 9 weeks without physio.  It depends on how much walking you did pre-operatively too. I used to do quite a bit of walking, and commute into London to work, so plenty of fast walking there too.

I went out for my first walk yesterday after my second surgery - and was amazed how exhausted I was. After about 300 yards, I just knew I could not complete the walk I was hoping to do, and returned home.  * Listen to your body *

Pain in the bum cheek - well that's you waking up those unused muscles - I had that yesterday too, also the thigh at the top front and inside, my muscles have been dormant for 2 weeks now.

    Hi Ruth,

You have some great advice here!  That is what we are here for, right?  Great site this is with truly great people.

I agree with listening to your body and ice helps and rest is critical.  Walking is such a great exercise for us hippies.  Nine weeks is very early in a recovery that can take a full year.  What I would add is to keep in mind that we only have once to heal right.

    Take care!
