i am almost two years post a complicated thr posterior approach and am having problems. i thought the problems were related to confirmed nerve and other soft tissue damage but i am now questioning the fit of the cup and whether it is rubbing and/or loose causing problems. xray appears to be normal but when i press my fingers into the "sunken space" around the incision when i walk i can feel the joint moving - it isnt painful. it feels something like a grinding feeling. i don't know if this is normal or not. has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this is?

I would think as long as you're not having pain n you already had an xray to confirm healed hip you're probably fine.
Were you given long term precautions?

I didn't want to get into all the details of the complications I had so I pretty much just said it was a complicated posterior approach revision. . One year previous to the "revision" using the posterior/lateral approach, I had my initial THR via the anterior approach complicated by a hairline fracture and meralgia paresthetic (injury to the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve) and scaring. It was suggested that the circlage contributed to this and that removal of the circlage cable was pretty straight forward. So 9 months after the first surgery, different surgeon, I went back to surgery to have the circlage cable removed. Supposedly during that surgery, the cup loosened and was replaced. Supposedly the surgery went well. I was in the worst pain I have ever been in and was so dizzy that I could stand without feeling like I was going to faint which actually did happen one day post op. 8 days later still in excruciating pain and a huge hematoma and massive swelling (pitting edema) down to my toes and too dizzy to even stand, I was discharged to a skilled nursing facility where I continued to further deterioate. 4 days later I saw a physician and was able to convince him that somelthing was terribly wrong. My hemoglobin was 4 (this is life threatening). I was 14 days post op at this point and went back to the ER, was transfused, put on coagulants after a CT scan showed a thigh full of blood. I was then transferred to rehab. 21 days post op, a completely healed incision opened up and I bled out. Ended up in ICU. Had surgery the following day and one bleeding blood vessel was tied off. The bleeding continued and a second bleeding blood vessel was identified. I went back to surgery and had this clipped. So in essence I had 3 surgeries through the same lateral/posterior incision, I had a thigh full of blood for 3 weeks with so much pressure that a completely healed incision opened up. In terms of pain, I have constant indescribable pain. I don't know why - I don't know if it is from soft tissue damage from having so much prolonged pressure in my thigh or what. So I am constantly looking for answers and feeling around my thigh and buttocks I have a sink in the area around the incision. I don't know if that is normal after the posterior approach. My surgeon said it was just from the removal of fat. So I can push my hand through this sunken area and when I walk I feel with my hand the movement of the joint which is not painful and feels like some grinding. Obviously Ive seen many doctors and have had mutiple xrays and mris that do not explain my pain. I also know that imaging especially because it is static is limited. I wouldn't expect anyone on this site to have had the complications that I had but I'm hoping that someone who has had the posterior approach THR can tell me if you can stick your hand through the gap that was created by the surgery or the muscle being cut or whatever, and if anyone else can feel the joint moving when you walk. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal. I would like to think that at least there is no problem with the implant itself but I'm not convinced. Thank you.
