Transmission

I've had general herpes for about 20 years and am on Valtrex daily for suppressive therapy... haven't had a breakout in years. Boyfriend wants to have unprotected sex and knows the risk but the thought of transmitting it to him terrifies me. Has anyone on here had a successful relationship with someone and not giving it to them?

You can’t give it to him with no breakouts... in order for you to transmit it to someone you have to have a breakout when having sex

That's what I thought but you know when you go online to research stuff there so much conflicting info it overwhelms you lol. Thanks!

I've been having unprotected sex with my girlfriend for 14 months without passing my HSV2 on. It does require vigilance looking for outbreaks though.

I know it's not what you're asking but 20 years seems a long time to have been on valtrex. Have you tried coming off it? Maybe the outbreaks wouldn't return?

Sorry, I've only been on Valtrex for about 2 years... I've had GH for about 20 years.

Actually herpes is completely unpredictable. The risk of transmission is very low when you dont have outbreak but still there is a risk. Better keep protected sex.

But tell us about your sex experience over 20 years. Did you use protection over 20 years? And why did you start suppressive therapy?
