I've had recurring utis for about six months (average 2 times a month). Each case left me in pain and the constant need to urinate and stinging when I did.

Trimethoprim I was told would not work when they received the culture so they gave me nitrofurantoin which took the pain away.

That was 3 months ago and I thought I was all clear (although did not get a post meds check as thought absence of pain was enough to prove it was gone). I noticed that my urine smelt stronger than usual but it didn't hurt so I left it.

3 months down the line I have started to feel such bad back and stomach pain I can't sleep and I feel sick. Doc came last night and prescribed trimethoprim! I didn't realize at the time it was the same ones but when I got the packet recognized it was the ones I was resistant to before.

As this UTI has different symptoms to before is it possible it will work this time or is it a case of once resistant always resistant no matter what the culture of bacteria is?

Im worried if I keep taking these and they definitely won't work it will get worse and the back pain indicates it could be going towards the kidneys.

One thing I will say is that paracetamols have effectively masked the pain - taken Panadol since the pain and it becomes bearable for a few hours

My name is Fleur I'm 15 years old.

From the age of 4 and onwards I have had ongoing problems down there wink Trust me when I say I have gone to multiple specialists!!! Because I live in Australia - remote I have had to travel inter-state to pay thousands of dollars to get NO help for years on end.

A few months ago I traveled to Adelaide and to meet a women doctor who helped me so much. I would never leave my house, refuse to go to school and generally cut out all my social life before I met her.

I've been through mulitiple surgeries and hundreds of types of medication/antibiotic (none have worked).

The lady did some sort surgery, she put me to sleep and found my bladder was seriously inflamed. This is what is causing you the pain. She told me to drink as much water as I could (so my urine was clear) and to take uricleanse once a day.

The reason why I'm telling you this is because I tend not trust these sites but I'm putting it out there so you will have some chance of listening/believing me...

Anyway from all the pain and drama I discovered a medication called 'URICLEANSE'. It's an over the counter tablet.

. They are taken like barroca tablets but they taste pretty good. I buy mine online. They come in a green tube. And they stop pain and smell and everything to do with everything. Take them until it stops hurting.

So I guess you could say I've almost got a lifetimes worth of knowledge..

If you want anymore info be sure to reply

    Good luck Fleur

Ps this is all sort of jumble because it is late and this is not my normal bedtime

    Sorry smile

    And wait there's more!

    When was you're first UTI?

I would suggest seeing a specialist soon.

It sounds like you are immune to medications - I was too ( I think to two or three medications in total).
