I had my TURP operation 8 weeks ago, the bleeding stopped after about 10 days and along with a few scabs. At the moment I find when I go to pass urine, although it comes out fast, there does not seem to be a great amount. Has anyone else come across this.

I am 63 years old and had a TURP 6 months ago and I am the same as you I go to urinate regularly as soon as I feel bladder has urine and it does flow OK and freely poors but not a lot. I certainly regret having the TURP operation as the side effects have effected my life ie Retrograde ejaculation with little semen and brown in colour and erectyl desfunction. Hope things are better for you on that side. Regards Peter

I haven't asked my GP about the brown semen as it is not painful and I believe it started when I was taking Tamsulosin and Finisteride before the TURP operation. I think it may be to do with the retrograde ejaculation where very little and brown semen comes out of the normal way and the majority of the semen travels back up the bladder and comes out with the urine. The main issue is poor erections due to the operation and the anxiety/stress of trying to have sex with a half erect penis. I am trying to get Viagra to see if that can help me but my GP is not very forthcoming in prescribing it on the NHS, probably because of the cost and their damn budgets.Regards Peter

I still get up at night -- but only once. I'm now off all meds. Like Ken says -- I have dry orgasm -- but sex drive is good.
For those who are trying to evaluate whether or not to have surgery -- mine was an ordeal to go through -- but now I am glad that I did. I think, though, that there are now procedures that are less harsh on the body than TURP. I would recommend having a procedure -- but I would recommend thoroughly exploring those other routes (such as Urolift).

i hope ops that things get better over time for you. I have a friend who had to have Turp done 3 times, but they were trying not to take too much prostate out each time.
for anyone reading these posts that is considering Turp, I would certainly spend some time investigating other less invasive procedures such as HOLep, Urolift or my favorite, PAE. I had the PAE 9 weeks ago and there was no pain, no bleeding, I drove home 8hrs the next day. My results have been nothing short of amazing. I started with a 128g prostate with a large median lobe protruding into the bladder. I had to pee 4-5 times a night and it was always difficult. Eventually I had to be Catherized in the emergency room and then was trained to self cath. I was considering Turp as the other non invasive procedures were not available to me because of prostate size and medium lobe. I then discovered the PAE procedure and it has completely changed my life. I rarely get up at night, pee with no problems during the day and have had no sexual side effects.i am 67.

i agree on researching all. As I mentioned Urolift could not be performed with my conditions. None of the procedures work for everyone. I am glad PAE worked for me and URolift worked for you. Unfortunately many on this Forum have posted nightmares with various procedures including Urolift. Much depends on the patients total problem, health and the skill of the surgeon or radiologist.

I researched my heart valve replacement and watched operations on Youtube questioned the surgeon on the odds against making it through surgery and possible problems later and spoke to ones who had the surgery but I did not find out that 30% of patients go into atrial fibrillation after the operation until it happened to me.

Good morning George. Yes I did have it done in orlando where in florida are you. Don't know what the CC size was but he told me it was the size of a lemon and was closed. He could not get the scope through to the bladder. I have no side effects. Had it done on a monday and was good to go by sat. If you want I can give you his number. I would never have anything done that would cause me more problem. Its your choice to have any procedure. My doctor has done many man with large prostate and with median lobes with good results. Don't know how old you are and if your still into sex but 9 out of 10 surgery for a enlagre prostate will cause sexaul problems and retro ejaculation At 61 Im not giving up anything and I have told my doctor that my orgasm and ejaculation are more intense after I had it done. I would try a urolift first before anything that may be all you need. Take care Ken
