HI I am 21 and was recently just diagnosed with hsv2 and I'm a female.
I was infected by a guy I've been seeing but i didn't get an out break until about a month after we started having unprotected sex. Is it possible he got infected by having sex with another girl during that month? I'm reading everywhere that you get your first outbreak sign about 3-7 days after exposure and I'm a little confused by that because i was absolutely fine for the first 3 weeks of dating him. I told him and he said he's never had any symptoms before but still hasn't been tested since. I get tested regularly as well so i know it wasn't from anyone else. Anyways, i went to the doctor got diagnosed and took anti-virals. i hadnt had an outbreak for 3 weeks and i went out to a bar with my good guy friends and got wasted with them and had sex with one but WITH a condom... I'm afraid of giving it to him but i don't want to say anything. I'm horrified. It might've been during my prodrome period because I got an outbreak this morning...approx 3 days later. I'm SO scared. and feel like the worst girl in the world because if i was in my right state of mind that would've never happened. but theres nothing to do now. Thoughts???? help!

The nurse at the clinic said that 1. You can contract the virus and it lay dormant with no symptoms for years so I could have caught it years before from someone else.
Or 2. My partner could have been having a mild outbreak and passed it to be as it can only be passed on and tested for when an outbreak is occurring.
We still don’t know if my partner has it as he’s never noticed any symptoms but apparently this is quite normal especially in men to have extremely mild cases.
Regarding your friend, you should tell him really. I know it must be so hard to do but it’s a life long condition and if he has caught it he needs to be aware that he could pass it on to future partners. Especially as it can be very harmful to babies so you have to be very careful if you are pregnant and have the virus.
Sorry you’re going through so much
