Hi everyone, can you tell me where you all got your 'gadgets' from - pickers, bed/chair raisers, toilet raised thingy (!). I'm having my OP at the Nuffield & unsure if they provide or is it NHS that provides or do I buy myself? I'm trying to get prepared as much in advance as possible. Is it necessary to raise the end of the bed? Thank you all again in advance x

I had my operation at the Nuffield almost 4 weeks ago . The physio told me which equipment they would provide at my pre op . They gave me a grabber , a toilet seat, crutches and a leg raiser ( I'm not sure the leg raiser is standard ) when I got home I ordered another grabber so I had one upstairs and downstairs and another toilet seat for the same reason . I also ordered a v shaped pillow and a sun lounger ( all from Amazon) . I also ordered a slumber cushion from futons first so I could sleep on my side . They are expensive but worth every penny for me . Hope that answers some questions, but you can ask all these questions at pre op . Good luck xxx

I was given my raised toilet seat, grabbers and long handle shoe horn at my pre op assessment. My op was at a Spire hospital but was through the NHS. Might be worth giving the Nuffield a call to save any unnecessary expense?
I didn't initially raise the end of my bed but after a week or so, placed a large pillow (the kind from a sofa back) at the bottom of the bed for my legs to rest on. I found this very comfortable for sleeping on my back and now at 6 weeks post op, still use it.
When is your op?

Rather than giving you info where you can get all the aids you need, I would suggest you first find out from the Occupational Health team at the Nuffield what they will be supplying you with. You can then decide if what else you require, we can then suggest which supplir to go to.
Best wishes

ONE seat raiser (not for my recliner)
Two toilet seat raisers - different types for our 2 loo's
Would have supplied bed raisers, but didn'tneed them.
TED aid (slippery nylon bag)
Large dressings
They did not provide :-
Grabber (eBay)
Shoe horn (Local disabled supply shop)
Recliner raiser (made my own - see my website)
Sock aid (Local disabled supply shop)
It may differ between authorities and individual hospitals though.
I didn't raise the end of the bed.
I did use our office chair as a dining room chair, and my wife's old wheeled veg store as my personal items trolley (see website again).

Cels - Sounds like that will be ok - I am well over 6 foot, so I need the extra six inches or so.
