UPDATE on STUBBORN MEN POST

Good morning all.  This is a update on my post Stubborn Men and Pushy Doctors. The friend that I was talking about had his Turp that no one could talk him out off.  He had no other test to see what the problem was and he never went to a office to see a doctor.  This was all set up from 2 ER visit.  He was upset because he had to were a catheter.  Well no man wants some tube in your penis.  Now he is kicking himself because this was not the quick fix that he through it was going to be.  It has been 6 weeks.    First they have try to remove the catheter 2 times and he can't pee.  That was the problem before.  He is passing so many clogs and blood that he has to were a pad.  He did not have that problem before.  The best things now he has bladder spasm every time he stands.  He GF told him now you know what labor pains are.  I had them and they hurt like hell.  He has told her he should have went to another doctor and see if the prostate is the problem.  They are going to try to take the catheter out Monday to see if he can't pee If not back it goes for another couple of weeks (  the only thing I told her to tell him if the catheter has to stay in put a lube or somekind of gel on the catheter were it is inserted in the penis to help with the irration )  I do believe and so does his GF that he has a problem with he bladder not the prostate.  But it to late now.  Only time will tell.  My main goal for this post is please men this is your body and you need to take care of it.  The procedure is up to you not the doctor.  He can tell you what he thinks will fix the problem but he will not know until he does it if it will work.  We are all different and we heal  different rates.  Don't rush into any surgery without getting a second oponion.  If your doctor get upset with you because your not jumping at what he is telling you they get another doctor.  They are human like us and they can make mistakes..  I have talked many time about my urologist  I was happy that I found him 3 years ago.  He has never pushed me into any procedure.  When I had my Urolift done 2 years ago.  He was checking my stricture.  The camera went through it with no problem but when he tryed to get into the bladder to make sure all was good he could not get it through my prostate.  That hurt very much.  He even try to put a catheter in ( after he ask ) My prostate was closed.  I just had a pressure flow test which cam back fine but I had to force myself and I had a small steam.  He did not say you have to have your prostate removeed he just said it need to be opened up. 6 weeks later Had the procedure.  He put in 4 implants and I been good to go.  The main thing is get ALL THE IMFORMATION YOU CAN AND IF YOU NEED A SECOND OPONION GO FOR IT.  It is your life and body. You are the one that will have to deal with the out come not the doctor.  He just moves on to the next patient.  Have a great sunday  Ken

I firmly believe many urologists are abnormal psychologically. Ten years prior to my greenlight I was having prostate problems and I went to several university physicians in highly respected medical facilities in the Midwest and they blew me off and acted strange. Twice they told me to take cialis and one told me I would have to self catherize for the rest of my life. Who knows what ticked them off in my personality that they would professionally treat me in this fashion. But not all MD's are normal. You just do not know who you are talking to. Yes they have medical diplomas but that does not mean they are fit to treat people.

The problem is that many urologists have never personally experienced what their patients have to suffer through. If they did they would not discuss it with their patients as that would be unprofessional.

There are the good ones out there but you do have the one that think they are gods and think they know all.  I think if a urologist would have some of the problems that most of there patients would have I think we would be treated different.  Some are also stuck ing the past. My urologist is only 38 but he know and he keeps learning different procedure because time are changeing He is just starting to do the rezum procedure.  Hw went for the training on it.  I have talked to him about some of the men on here that has had it done and the problems that they have gotten into.  I even told him that a few of the men did not want to take a chance of having retro so they only alowed the doctor to do the right side of the prostate and it worked well for both of the men.  My doctor has told me that there is always a chance with the rezum that with the steam injection it can damage the tissue of the duct.  He is very up front.  I wish all men had a urologist like I have Take care  Ken

Thanks for the update. And wait till your friend tries to have sex (if he can) and shoots blanks. You tried your best to advise him but you can only lead a horse to water...

Yes, second and third opinions can sometimes make a significant difference in both treatments and outcomes. But the opinion that mattters most is your own, and ideally that requires additional research. Once you abdicate all decision making to the doctors, you yourself are also to blame for bad outcomes. Unfortunately, not as easily said as done, especially in situations where you feel pressured (rightly or wrongly) to make a decision fast.

Yes I know and that has happened more they once to some of the men on here the doctor will tell you what he feel is needed and they he will say ok we will set this up for in a few days.  You have no time to look into it or think about anything.  That is wrong but it happens Ken

I was wondering what his outcome was. Had a feeling it was not good. Can't believe they even suggested surgery without any testing. Now what? The testing is useless cause now they won't know what he had and what was caused by the surgery.

He throught is was going to be a quick fix. Just because he was told that doing the turp would open him up so he can pee.  The doctor never told him if his prostate was inlarge. I think there was something with his bladder because he could not pee without the catheter.  I was told this by my doctor and I think this is a good think to know.  When you go in with a problem or you can't pee most of the time you are giving some test but if they can't fine a problem they assume it the prostate. And want to start cuting it out They try to fix one thing at a time so if you have your prostate out and the problem is not fixed they look at the bladder and after that it's the kidneys.  You have to take controls and say no likes find the problem before any surgery  Take care  Ken

I just can't wrap my head around a doc who would say operate without any testing. Would love to hear his excuse for it not doing a thing to help him. Now he's screwed and the doc still gets paid.

And does he realize as soon as the doc got in there he seen there was no stricture due to prostate? Then did the surgery anyways? Or is the doc lying and telling him there was stricture but now there a separate issue. Wow. I would be heated.

Yes I do feel sm bet a second oponion.  He said no and now let him deal with it  Ken  (  There are doctors out there that will to the surgery and then worry about it later  )

I think surgery (especially TURP) should be a last resort and only after researching other options. I was lucky to find a good urologist who advised me that although my prostate was mildly enlarged, I had other issues as well (sleep and bladder). I was thinking the same way in spite of what the GP told me (all BPH). The urologist advised me that surgery would not be very effective nor would drugs like flomax. It's terrible to think that guys go through all the difficulties of surgery only to find out that it didn't help. They may end up incontinant or impotent as a result with no benefit. The bottom line: think twice before agreeing to surgery. Although, there are many successes with the various procedures, there are also many failures. Good research should help to ensure success.

You had a very good doctor that did not push you into surgery He told you that it would not work Some doctor would just to it and say oh well.  The a guy on here his name is frank He has retention.  His doctoe wants to do a turp but told him he had a 50 50 chance of still doing CIC.  To me the odd are not good why have it if I still have to do CIC.  Every man has a right to a good out come  Take care  Ken

50/50 chance? No thanks. A coin toss is no way to decide your medical decisions
