updates on todays appointments

orthotics this morning was a bit disappointing. they wont do open back walking sandals, they wont do my birkies, they dont like my slip on trainers. so i still need to find some shoes that are comfy and fit all the requirements that orthotics have specified. it was tough enough finding my new sandals.
the consultant appt was a bit limited, confusing and reassuring if thats possibly. firstly, he asked how it was feeling. i said ok, bit sore still and i fell off a chair but he wasnt worried (im not sure he realised i fell from standing on the bloody thing). he told me to continue with the restrictions...oops, for another 6 weeks..what??!! he didnt really clarify which restrictions so no clue whether driving or more intimate activities are allowed yet but ive driven today and it was fine. i drive a VW van and its a very upright position so no probs emergency stopping or anything. i do need to go back to being careful about the 90 degree thing. as i was past 6 weeks I assumed it was ok so wasnt being too careful. wrong. he also said to stay on crutches for 6 weeks but physio was talking about me trying sticks tomorrow.
i mentioned the other hip being grumbly and he agreed that the way the other hip went so fast, we should keep a close eye on this one. he said he didnt want it to get as bad as the right had so would xray when he sees me in 3 months and compare with the last pics taken a year ago. he will schedule surgery if the damage is severe enough.
so all in all, a funny old day. need to behave..

At least you are being seen in 3 months. I have a year now till my next xray unless I feel something is wrong and then I can make a direct appointment with the surgeon.

Sorry you are having diificulty with choice of foot wear. But there is always a reason and that is mainly to make sure there is no chance of taking a fall while out walking. I don't like slippers and have never warn them. The nurses would not even allow me to wear my slipper socks. So I had to wear my trainers and 1/2 the time the nurses were too busy to help me put them on. So once I was walking I would be waiting sometimes anything up to an hour for them to put my trainers on so I could go to the loo.
Yes our surgeons can be a bit vague when we try to explain things at clinc. They have so many people to see and not enough time. I am still on two crutches bacause of the right un operated side collapsing. I would say that he is telling you to stay on two crutches to avoid the pain of what I am going through. If it does collapse. Your hip area, thigh, knee and lower leg may swell and you may like me get more new swelling in your operated side. You will know if it happens. It is almost unbearable pain. I suggest that you tell the physio that he has told you to stay on the crutches so there are no mix ups. If your hip does collapse you need to let your surgeon know ASAP to get an appointment because you could have internal bleeding or other complications. please don't ignore it. If it does go he will have to wait at least 3 months before he can operate on it and you like me will not be able to walk far any more or maybe not even drive for a while again because the pain and swelling is so bad. I have to say the pain and swelling has got less over the last week but I am also helping myself with vitamin supliments and still on all pain killers. I really hope this does not happen to you. But better be warned than to have the shock I did when I felt it go.
