upped dose

Hi all.

Just wondering. I have just got back from the docs and they want to put me up to 60mg from 40mg. My question is, has anyone else gone up to 60 from 40 and have you noticed a difference. I am unsure whether to go ahead with this change.

Thank you.

Helen.

I was reluctant but has been what has made me 2 weeks without crying and feel much better. You can always reduce after. I didn't have many increases in side effects etc. Hope it works out

Hi Helen, I too have gone from 40 - 60 on flu without too many more side effects! After a few months I still didn't feel that much effect though, and was still feeling tired, difficult to concentrate/ remembers d tired. I can't be sure if it was flu or the depression itself to be honest! But I think it was more likely the depression because it wasn't increasing each time I raised the flu! Side effects like tingling or anxiety were only present when starting the drug, not when increasing the dose for me! I do know everyone is different though so you may get the same effects you got as when you started, or you may get different ones, or none at all!!!! Do you think the drug has been working for you at all? If not, I'm wondering of a different drug might suit you better?! But I'm sure your doc has considered that and thinks its best to try 60 first! Let us know how you get on! Good luck xx

      Hi Lucy.

Thanks for the reply. I have been on flu for about 15 years now. Began on 20 then 40 then back down to 20 and have been on 40 for some time now. I was hoping to start coming off them but the anxiety kicked in again and it seems that putting me up to 60 is the only answer (according to the doctor!). This should bring the anxiety down but if there is no change she said she would try me on something different. I have not seen this doctor before. I only saw her because my usual doctor is on maternity leave! So I'm a bit reluctant. The thing is I'm not depressed, just anxious. Life has thrown some difficulties at my family and me over the years and it has had an effect.

I feel as if I'm going round in circles all the time and getting nowhere. I'm sure many people feel the same.

Thanks again for the reply. It's so good to have this forum because people in the same situations understand and listen more than the doctors.

You're right, I really understand the feeling of going round in circles and one minute I think I need to up the dose and sometimes I think I can come off! You say you've hada bit of a spike after at first feeling you would come off them... I wonder if it is just that. A spike. A momentary blip. It depends how long it's been going on really?! If you are mostly on a curve that's getting better, but just having a blip, maybe you don't need to change the dose, just ride it out for a while. But if generally things aren't getting any better any more then there is no harm in raising! (It's weird how I can say this so nonchalantly to someone else eh?) when I have needed to go up I've been reluctant too! But overall I'm not sure there is any harm! Apart from longer coming off in the long run. But if your body really needs these to work properly maybe you don't need to stop them? If you had liver failure and meds worked for that, you wouldn't stop taking them eh? Xxx

Yes you are right Lucy. I might ride it through for a bit and see how I go. If no change then I will up them.

Thanks for your time. Hope things work out for you.
