Uterine fibroids

Hi all I hope everyone is well. I am 8 months post op UFE. I started a period on Thursday which was normal flow however yesterday I had a flooding incident and I have had another just now. Which means that I will be anemic again. I really thought this was behind me after Radiology said the fibroid is dead. How can it be luckily I have got Mefamic acid to stop the flow. Wondered if anyone else had this my Fibroid when it was last checked had shrunk from 10cm to 7cm so I don't understand why this has happened. Take my advice ladies NEVER have Endomerial ablation that is what started this. Anyway looks like its back with a vengeance.

    Hello Patricia27802,

I had a open myomectomy nearly 5 weeks ago. I originally booked in for the UFE however after further discussions with my gyne he said it would take around 12 months to notice any real change.. I couldn't wait a further year or so to see if this would work due to the pelvic pain, back pain and constant flooding and blood transfusions so I opted for the removal of my 9 cm fibroid. This was supposed to be done key hole, however the prostrap injections I had for 3 months prior did shrink th fibroid so I had to have open surgery. I have had problems and now seems I've been left with nerve damage on my right leg and bottom.. Reduced feeling and pain in groin and above right hand side of scar.. The prostrap has now stopped my period too so just waiting for them to kick back in and see what happens. Fingers crossed the flooding stops😬As yours has reduced in size do you feel any more comfortable than when the fibroid was bigger?

The way it was explained to me is fibroids can make your uterus larger, therefore there's more surface area that bleeds. This is where the heavy flow and flooding comes from. so even though your fibroid is dead, your uterus is still quite enlarged. This could be wrong, but it's how two gynaecologists explained it to me after UFE did nothing to change the flow of my periods despite shrinkage from 10cm to 5cm.

Hi , I had a different experence from you so far from my Endometrial ablation.  Although it might be considered early days as I only had the procedure in May, I have only had spotting in that time occasionally and now nothing.  My consultant was good considering my uterus was enlarged to a length of 14cm, so not easy to perform but she resected my submucous fibroid and removed a polyp which she considered both to be the main cause of my flooding. I have multiple fibroids, 7 according to my MRI which are subserous and intramural and submucous but the gynaecologist believed it was only the polyps and fibroid on my lining (submucous that caused the bleeding and that the other fibroids would not affect the bleeding but were the cause of pressure symptoms and bladder frequency and the literature seems to echo that opinion.

Have you gone to a gynaecologist recently to check the uterus lining, I know through previous correspondence on the forum that you are weary of them but they are the only specialists that  can check you again and ensure there are no debris on your uterus lining from all your previous procedures.

Hi Patricia, sorry to hear about the bleeding, I hope things will still improve for you. I don't think anyone really knows enough about what causes the heavy bleeding, some women have fibroids that cause no symptoms, others have small fibroids and horrendous bleeding. I have virtually no bleeding now yet my stomach is as big as ever, so what's that about? Sometimes I feel like a ticking time bomb, never know when you're going to have an 'incident' in public. Am still taking large doses of DIM, but whether this is helping I don't know. But I don't dare stop! Wish you all the best.

I'm so sorry! How frustrating! I just got tranexamic acid. I was wondering how often you take it and how soon it works. When I flood I lay down until it stops (sometimes for hours). Do you continue your activities with the tranexamic acid? You also said the ablation started all of this. I have been told by two gynecologist that I should have an ablation but I haven't because I have quite a few fibroids. I have been trying to find an experienced IR to get an embolization but you aren't the first person who has had a bad experience. Thanks!
