Vaginal Hysterectomy tomorrow

Posted , 9 users are following.

I'm going in for my hysterectomy tomorrow and really apprehensive.  Just discovered this site and I think it's brilliant to be able to share experiences.  I am nervous about what I'll be able to do or not do afterwards - I have a dog and would like to be walking asap.  Any advice?

Well, am out of hospital this morning, and so far so good.  The hospital staff were magnificent and am told to take it easy, which I intend to do. A bit bloated and windy, and feel achy and delicate, but my plan is to start gentle walking after a week and not do anything involving lifting or effort for several weeks.

      Hi Kathy

Glad it went OK.  Don't forget, try and avoid twisting, bending, crouching or anything that puts your body out of alignment as I think that was my mistake at 2 weeks post op.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

Thanks Shania, hope all remains well with you (did you manage that jog?).  It is soooo hard.  I am only home about three hours and already I've broken my own rules at least twice... How am I going to manage 6 weeks?!   I have taken self to bed with some books and puzzles, and even that involves some twisting... Going mad!!! eek x

      Hi Kathy

Yes, I'm pleased to say I did do half an hour's jog - very gentle - and no adverse effects, so I'm hoping to do another.  Maybe not today though as it's drizzling now and I am a bit of a fair weather jogger!  I'm just over 5 weeks post op now and I have managed a walk every day from week 1, and although the first two weeks were hard, it does get easier after that. But I know what you mean - there are only so many crosswords you can do!!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Update:  All has gone splendidly and had very little pain etc, but I overdid it at the weekend visiting family and going shopping etc, and ended up depressed and exhausted.  Today I have had a weird symptom, really bad rectal cramps... I hope it's just part of the healing process.  I had the opposite problem to many and had to stop taking the softeners as they worked rather too well, so perhaps this is related.  Otherwise all well, just slight staining and not much pain, and have been able to do a couple of short walks and very light housework.  X

All seems to be going great for you.  I am three weeks post op today.  Really good now apart from that I still get tired.  Had a little sleep in the chair this afternoon.  I even drove a short distance to the docs yesterday to save hubby some time.  Rest as much as you can, boring though it may be and keep doing those pelvic floor exercises.  !!  Claire
