Vaginal Stitches

Posted , 4 users are following.

i would be pleased if someone would tell me when my stitches dissolve, and whether they completely dissolve or residue remains. I had both Systocele and Retrocele procedures just one week ago.

im doing very well, no pan medication now and BM are getting more comfortable.

my first BM a few days after the surgery was horrendous, the worst pain I've ever had. I was screaming. Is this usual. I've Ben taking stool softeners since day of the surgery so was not constipated.

i have learned a lot reading the posts here and appreciate this list. My surgeon told me virtually nothing. Visited me three days after the procedure for no more than two minutes and told me what a good surgeon she is. Duh! She didn't even ring my husband after my surgery.

best wishes to all.

Everyone is different Rousselle and their sutures dissolve at different times so nobody can be that specific unfortunately.

      Hello Matron,

Are you official on this list?

      "Matron" . . . Sounds like a medical professional. . .

if that is the case I would like to know as that would give weight to your comments.

Rousselle I'm concerned that you've singled me out and asked me to give weight to my comments however I don't mind you asking. I presume you think I'm a nurse, well that's correct. I have over 41 years experience in the NHS mainly in gynaecology so I do have a great deal of experience and I do know what I'm talking about when I give advice. Hope that helps.

Perhaps you could tell me why you singled me out to ask that question because I have given you more advice than the other ladies

Hello Rouselle, I had a rectocele repair two weeks ago. My Surgeon told me that the top stitches disolve after about 4 weeks but the big ones underneath can take up to 10 weeks . Mine are really itching !

      Thank you, Gingernic.

Not nice at all when itching . . . Sympathies!

Fingers crossed I shall be spared that.

      Goodness 10 weeks, eek!

Hi Rousselle, never fear advice is here! I am 5 weeks post double prolapse surgery. My stitches started to come out a week ago. They dissolve on their own, you might find string looking thread at this stage the rest dissolve. You will be a bit sore at this stage, might have a hint of pink discharge but do not worry. This is what happened to me.

    I hope thus helps.

      Hi Jane,

Thank you so much for sharing. Very helpful!

I'm off pain meds now - just a hint of pale pink discharge.

      Still tired.

The thing to remember Rousselle is that there's a strong possibility you won't know when your stitches dissolve because you may not see them. So please don't worry if you don't.

    hi Rousselle,

Just wondering how you are getting on? I'm in Australia also and will be  having recotcele repair. What stool softeners did you take? I was fearful doing a bowel movement after giving birth so I imagine the rectocele repair will be worse. Where abouts did you have your surgery?

      Hello Jeen,

i live in Surrey Hills, Vic and had the surgery at Epworth Eastern in Box Hill.

      My surgeon is Madalena Liu.

i have been taking LAX-SACHETS twice a day since day one (prescribed by surgeon). I also take 2 Colyxl with senna each night (my own initiative).. I eat about 6/7 tinned prunes each day also.

      this is soooo important.

the first BM I had was at home on day 4 and it was extremely painful. Since then less painful each day, and now 9 days later, no pain at all.

i needed pain meds: Panadol and Nurofen until yesterday at decreasing doses.

I was discharged from hospital when the catheter was removed and when a portable ultrasound showed that I had completely emptied my bladder. This was after the third time I passed urine post catheter. I understand that some people go home with the catheter.

For me, my recovery is rapid, I'm 76 years old.

I had both rectocele and systocele (bladder prolapse repair) procedures. I understand they took 1 1/2 hours.

Please do keep in touch - I'm most happy to 'talk' with you.

when and where is your surgery happening.

      Warmly,

      Rousselle.

      Thanks Rousselle,

ive just messaged you. I think it will be Dr Marcus Carey who has a good rep (also in Melbourne) he also worked publicly but the wait is almost 2 years!

Wow it sounds like those stool softeners arent working too well, I wonder if other brands are more effective. I'm guessing its the pain meds which cause constipation? I havent ever really had any problems but all i usually eat is beans and fruit. I'll stock up on laxatives before the op!

A two year wait - goodness! Two years is a very long time to anticipate, don't envy you.

I have medical insurance and could have had the surgery in less than a week after I had the testing done.

My pain meds have been both panadol and nurofen taken concurrently.

      ill check my mailbox.
