Very weak, having trouble standing... normal for first outbreak?

I'm in my 11th day of my first outbreak.  I am still getting new ulcers, I still have swolen glands and pain shooting through my upper thigh and groin.  I started Acyclovir 2 days ago...

My concern is related to my symptoms. I am feeling really weak and 'spaced out' throughout the day.  I walk slow from the pain but I'm also noticing that I'm having trouble standing as I feel top heavy like I'm drunk and about to fall over.  I'm not running a fever.  I'm getting decent sleep and drinking water but find that I'm barely able to function.  Are these normal symptoms for this virus?

Your help is appreciated.

How miserable for you! Are the top-heavy, drunk feelings due to the acyclovir? Did you have these feelings before you started the medication or did they only start once you started it? I take L-Lysine which is an amino acid; I get mine from a health shop. It needs to be a product without gelatin and magnesium stearate; 1000 mg dosage; I also avoid any foods with Arginine in (check out the internet for lists of foods high in L-Lysine and low in Arginine). I take 2000 mg every hour from the moment I feel I might be starting an outbreak, for two days and then reduce it to 1000 mg every hour for the next two days and then slowly reduce it as I feel. These help me keep the severity of the outbreak down and also the length of the outbreak. It's a natural product and taking too much may cause some stomach problems but then I just modify the dose. A lot of us take it and find it works but it only works if the amount of Arginine is kept low. Good luck.

Thanks for writing.  I can't tell if the dizziness / fatigue is from the Acyclovir or not.  The problem is I just started a cycle of meds to fight my Lyme and co-infections.. these include antibiotics and anti-virals.  It is a big chemical mess.  That said, the Lyme meds typically make me nauseous but not fatigued, weak  and dizzy, like vertigo.  (are those attributes of a HSV1 or HSV2 infection???)

I did get L-Lysine from the pharmacy but now see that it does contain the Magnesium Stearate.  I guess I'll return it.  I'm going to research the Arginine foods and follow your protocol.

      Again thank you.

Lyme disease is a meanie - a friend of mine also has it along with the associated fatigue and all sorts of other stuff. Don't think dizzy like vertigo is a symptom of H, but I'm not a doctor. Normally nausea and dizziness are symptoms of intolerance to chemicals in medication. What are the side effects of Acyclovir? Speak to your doctor about that and find out whether you shouldn't come off the Acyclovir for a couple of days to see if those symptoms go; if they do, the doctor may recommend you stay off them. But you should really speak to him about those feelings because they don't sound right at all!

I take L-Lysine with the magnesium stearate - don't know how much of it is in each tablet, but the lysine still seems to work well. I've been online and found a couple of other things recommended by other people - natural things. I think I should do a list and post it for everyone to see. One of my other posts gave some sites to visit, that I had found interesting, and also some youtube stuff with recommendations by others infected. I am not a doctor so whatever I write, everyone needs to decide for themselves - I don't know whether a lot of the things recommended work but would like to spread information around to help others. I really hope the Lysine works for you and that you feel better soon. As my daughter always says, "Just keep swimming!"

Hi! Yes! My first outbreak was awful! I could barely walk from the sores but I was also really weak and fatigued for a couple weeks! I slept most of the day and was constantly in pain! I take valtrex for it and it didn't kick in for like a week so I was just in pain and tired for a long time! It'll pass! I haven't had my second outbreak yet so I couldn't tell you if it gets better but as people always say, I'm sure the next one will be easier!
