WAITING

Hi Hippies,

Still waiting in North Wales (40 weeks) was told it would be 50 weeks - which will hopefully be September.

With the holidays coming up do hospitals cancel due to staff leave?

When should I expect an appointment for pre- op - do you get plenty of notice?  thought I might have received something by now!!

Regards

Paula

I had my pre op and was told the op would have to happen within 6 weeks or would have to be repeated. I was operated on 5 weeks later and my pre op was done on the same day I saw the consultant. This was at Wrightington hospital near Wigan. The time you have been waiting is horrendous . Agree with the others shout loudly. Good luck

dear paula ,,, goodness ... were you told this before? 40-50 WEEKS !!!  I had my surgery about 3 weeks after pre-op ... I am not sure how it works ... I am in Holland and this was a regional hospital - expected wait was 8 weeks and mine was in 5 weeks (too soon for me at that time !!! eventhough in a lot of pain )

good luck .. I am so sorry you have to wait so long -

hopefully in your next post you let us know when your surgery date is ...

    big hug

    Hi Paula,

50 weeks!! ridculous!! like all the others have said, make some noise! whats the point of a pre opp. if they are just going to make you wait till it's outdated and then you have to start all over again, call the hospital chief exec. complain in the strongest terms, and put it in writing,

    good luck,

    Lynne xx

I had my op ten weeks after the first assessment...I would phone the consultant, 50 weeks is ridicolous. Are you in pain at the moment?

    Hi again Paula,

me again, just agreeing with everyone...people get infections, death of loved ones, pregnancy, love, lots of reasons to cancel/postpone their op and create thus a gap for you.....fingers crossed and keep your toothbrush and toilet bag ready!

    Hi Paula

I am in south Wales and it is even worse here. Yes operations are cancled due to staff holidays. It has happened to me a few times. I suggest you get in touch with your surgeons secretary. You might not get an answer because she may be on holiday. But mthe hospital usually have some one to cover her calls and any mail so give it a try and if she is not there leave a message for her to phone you back. If you don't hear anything withinb 7 days phone back to remind them.

    If you were in

england your rights are in the NHS constitution.. In wales they have "target waiting times" of 26 weeks. See page 4 of the following http://gov.wales/docs/statistics/2011/110609waitingtimesfaqen.pdf

You should be complaining loudly about this wait it is positively primitive. You must be in agony I do hope you get a sympathetic hearing and do indeed talk to the consultants secretary. I used to work as a patient advice and liaison manager in the NHS. You don't have one of these in wales but look for some sort of patient advocacy service.

    Hi Paula,

I am in Australia and had 1 months notice. As others on this forum have mentioned I would start phoning the consultants office and the admission office at the hospital. Tell them you are not coping, taking heavy pain medication, that you can't function at all.

Its also worth checking that all is on schedule. I work in the hospital where I had my surgery and my boss rang me to say that admissions couldn't get hold of me when they had a date so it just shows no system is perfect by any means.

Good luck and I hope time passes quickly for you.
