Was anyone's 2nd hip more painful than the first

Hi everyone, I had my tlhr in April and I think that I had a fantastic recovery (I think being 38 helped) I had my right hip replacement on Tuesday and I cannot remember the pain being like it is now. The left hip did have pain round the wound but no "inside hip pain" but the right hip I have just had done is really painful inside. What is everyone else's experience of this?

Hello Jo - I think its a bit like having a baby. You forget just how painful it is. But the physio did tell me after my 2nd THR that was causing me so much pain and dis-comfort that my first THR must have been on the exeptionallly good end of the scale, and the 2nd, well we won't talk about that too much. Its a disaster even 9 months later, only a very small percentage about 5% have real complications after THR, I am improving but very slowly.. Hope you do get better soon, take your pain killers as prescribed, you will need them for a couple of weeks before you start to reduce your need for them. Maybe when they dis-located your first hip it was so worn out that it came away easy, and your second was not so happy to dis-locate. But of course they have to do it to replace the joint, and real force sometimes has to be used, but of course your muscles have to be hurt in the process. If you have the stomach for it, there are THR videos available on the internet, but I do warn you they are not very pretty, and maybe you are not ready for it yet.

Yes, I felt that it was worse for the first few weeks, but,

now, at 5 weeks, with two good hips, this stage feels

    easier to me.

I had 18 months between ops.

    Hi Jo,

welcome to our loving family of hippies -

I had the same reaction after 2nd THR in September and was told that I probably had forgotten the 1st one which I had in March ... first of all, the scar of 2nd surgery is more toward bum-cheek and sitting was uncomfortable - deeper pain, like you say - but not like pre-op pain though .. just wound pain -

We cannot and should not compare the 2 surgeries, I was told -

Another loved member of this family just had her 2nd THR and finds it so much better than her 1st ...

so, there you go - take your pain medication - ask for it when you are still in the hospital -

go easy and be gentle with your self

    big hug

    renee

Thank you all for your responses. I'm sure it is just a case that I had forgotten about the pain. I'm sure it will all be worth it and keeping fingers crossed for a pain free 2016

just for the record : it might be more painful this time .... at least I think it

is and I know my body. ..

and ....it was not that long ago. ...

I am 9 weeks post-op and it is different, definitely .....

    Big warm hug,
