was just diagnosed today...

before this past weekend, i had not had sex in 6 months (prior to that i was in a on/off again 3 years relationship. he slept with one woman from what i know of; i had only been with him for 3 years) and last weekend i pretty much had a marathon weekend with my current boyfriend (who is my high school sweetheart). this is the first time we have been together in over 10 years and neither one of us had ever had any symptoms before. He was recently in jail for about 6 months before we started talking again. apparently they test you when you go into jail for long periods of time. Before me, he was with this woman for 10 years. from what i understand she had cheated on him a few times but nothing had ever came up in the blood tests (he also hasnt been with anyone in about 7-8 months)

I have been in pain since sunday, i was thinking it was just from doing it so much over the weekend. the next day i noticed that i had bumps that looked like ingrown hairs. this morning i looked and they were ulcers. I got right in to see my dr and they did a cell culture and a blood test. i'm still waiting for the results. but he did prescribe me valtrex so obviously i must be positive right?

this morning my boyfriend calls me and says he has a few bumps on his shaft and it looks chafed around his pubic area. if this is a first outbreak for him, is it common for both people to have a first outbreak at the same time? we don't know who gave it to who.

Right now i just feel totally disgusted with myself. I feel dirty and i find myself crying randomly throughout the day because my mind just wonders. I'm in so much pain all i want to do is stay laying down. It's sort of like i cant process that this is happening.

Actually they do not screen for herpes when you are incarcerated. They screen for HIV and that is it.

Depending on what type you have, will be an indicator of how you got it.

Mi think there's a good chance it is a new infection for both of you.

I know someone who slept w someone who gave it to her and slept w her significant other not long after when she was itching and thought it was just a yeast infection and it took him a good two weeks till he had symptoms.

Some people take longer to notice symptom's.

Thanks for replying. I haven't gotten the result back yet but now I have one on my lip and I've never had one in my life!

If my outbreak is worse than his right now, would that mean I was the carrier?

I doubt you were a carrier, think he is... Sounds like it is hsv 1 in both places and you are new to the virus. There's still a chance it's hsv 2 on your genitaks, but sounds definitely like hsv 1 on your mouth.

I know this may hurt to hear, but my friend is a parole officer for murders, so obviously these people go away for long periods. If you think for a second that men do not have sex w one another in prison that long, you are sorely mistaken. No dude will go 10yrs w pit sex let alone 2. So there's a chance he got it in there

If you are still in pain from the outbreak, ask your Dr. for Lidacaine gel.  It stings at first but then helps with the pain.  Hopefully the Valtrex has kicked in and has helped.  I had to take 2 ten day courses of treatment to get my outbreak under control.

i know how you feel.  I walked around feeling like I had leprosy for a month.  It's ridiculous, but that's how it feels.  You didn't do anything wrong, neither did I.  This thing just happened.  Now we just have to figure out how to manage it.  Like diabetes, or high blood pressure, or seizures.  Except, as awful as it feels, herpes is much less dangerous than so many health issues we could have.  I remind myself of that and I feel a little better.  smile

I am feeling a lot better thank you. The meds have helped a lot and I also started taking lysine pills as well so idk if that helped with the healing process too.

I still haven't gotten my results back though, I do have a follow up appt next week.

Everyday gets a little easier, even though I haven't gotten the results back yet, I'm coming to terms with it.
