Watched the op.

Watched the op on YouTube. Scary but ama,ing. Boy are those surgeons worth their weight in gold. I've been having strange niggly pain again nearly like O/A pain but after watching that I have a lot of respect for my healing body.

    I watched the surgery on You tube before my surgery and I must agree it gives one understanding of all the aches we hav now. So glad we are in this day and age and have these resources to help us stay pain free and  able to be a viable particapant in life.

      That was brave. I don't think I could have watched it before hand.. I'm so glad too of devices like the one I am using to write for keeping me sane and occupied. I have a sister in the far west of America and shedding is awake when we are supposed to be sleeping and I've been emailing her at silly o clock.

    Isn't it amazing? I am surprised they can do it all in such a short amount of time. However, it shows just how much our bodies went through as well.

    Whenever I feel down about my lack of doing this or that I try to remember the surgery.

    It's good to keep it in the back of our minds. smile

    I've been into theatre many times for my job and I'm not squeamish as I help consult on complex wound care as part of my job. however, when it comes to watching my own surgery then......no I just can't bring myself to do it!! I have an idea and I have seen the special 'fracture' table they use and that was enough.

    Also because I may need the other one done one day it scares me off, ignorance is bliss in my case 😄

    Good morning attractac ...

    Amazing isn't it?  I watched it week 2 post-op and was humbled - It really gave me so much more understanding what actually was done (kudos to surgical team) - at some point I wasn't sure if I was watching a surgery or some do-it-yourself home improvement program ... good Lord !!!! 

    and now I am facing my second THR - 

    I am an igorance-is-bliss person too - will be interesting ... this is also a road to self-discovery for me .... 

    How did you sleep?

      Had five good hours. Waking up now with hip pain . Took 2 paracetamol and got more hours. Pouring here so its up and down the hallway for me today. I'm afraid of crutches slipping in the wet otherwise it would be raincoat and out. Are you moving tomorrow. Will you have internet at your new place.

    Well...I for one dont want to watch it...yet I do have a tough old stomach, I want to keep it all a secret, for now perhaps one day in a few years time I might watch it, but yuk!! ehhhhrrrr not now...I lost 4 pints of blood they told me, and I have more than 8 pints in me too.  eek EEk!! from an old toughie....cool Ian.

      cheesygrin it is OK tough guy ... I watched the animated version first ..then got curious and watched the whole thing live ... I don;t remember seeing a lot of blood but more how they approach the old hip joint etc. and how the new hardware was put in .. now wonder we have pain and soreness  - they really test the new hip joint to make sure it fits well ... and then closing the entry ... layers and layers of carefully placed stitches ...

      I have so many wee aches and pains thought seeing the op might help. I will have to get other one done at some stage. But I hope its far enough away for me to have forgotten.

    The whole procedure has absolutely fascinated me. I watched all sorts of vids but I think the thing that blew me away was the x-ray on day 3. I just asked have a look at it and to see the new joint in place and glowing like a heavenly thing was amazing. The left side still looks like a chewed tennis ball!

    Ian, the other thing that amazed me was waking up to find that I was re-cycling my own blood - out the wound, through the machine and back in my arm to stop me losing any. Apparently the Jehovahs Witnesses funded the machines here in Cornwall, England, as it means they can have procedures that involve having blood. It's like magick, and yes, Renee, with a bit of mad home improvements

      I went for me 5 week post op checkup last week and yes, I agree the Xray is amazing. Although my unoperated hip is fine, it still does not look as good as the sparkling new artificial one. It looked as if it had been painted on the screen - I was in awe of it! It truly is heavenly - we are very lucky aren't we?

    I han't been able to bring myself to watch it. I know they thow you around like a sack of potatoes and it makes me wonder if some of the brusing is caused by them not the op. I have actually told my surgeon not to be so flush with the knife when I have the right one done and to tell everyone to cut there finger nails  as I had a nail shaped cut on my left thigh last time and also finger shaped bruses. eek

      cheesygrin Oh Hailea, you are something else ... that is terrible though-- right through their glove too ....

      The one I watched they were extremely gentle. Of course they would be for video. IfDidn't focus much on hip dislocation. I did fell them pulling my leg and had a huge bruise on my knee only clearing now. Still a medical wonder tho.
