week 2 of 40mgz

hello. well this is week 2 of my 40mgz fluoxetine, and yes you guessed it, still feeling crap in general. I seem unusually agitated, irritable, grumpy, a bit twitchy as in nervous, even a wee bit of paranoia crept in I noticed. Walking on the beach the other day I was convinced I was being followed, even spotted footprints on otherwise unmarked sand, turned out to be my own from my earlier outward journey, felt stupid, but relieved! Started biting my fingernails, yuck, and picking skin around the nails until I bleed, not aware Im doing it sometimes. my goodness this Fluoxetine journey can be painful, frightening even, and if it wasn't for the fact I do know the eventual outcome is so worth the trauma, I would give up and scream. Hang in there everbody, light at the end of the tunnel, honest there is. cheesygrin

I started with Prozac 19 years ago, moved to other ADs and ended up on Effexor for 12 years, and throughout, I have been a picker.  I didn't realize it was a side effect until this year!  It is a compulsion, can't seem to not do it, and end up hurting myself like you mentioned with the cuticles, and causing scars by bothering scabs.  I also have horrible bone loss from grinding my teeth at night, such that I have major gum recession.  This is also apparently a side effect.  Not too happy about that, especially with the dental situation as there is no gaining bone back.  I finally have a night mouth gaurd to prevent further loss.  So, fair warning to all embarking on this journey of AD use; there are trade-offs!

I am going through hell. Confusion, don't know what I am doing each day. Forgetful, feelin like a zombie, no interest in anything, slepping an appetite not good. Will this subside ever? Also feeling inadequate at everything iseem ro do like just doing house choirs. However my driving is okay. All I want to do is hide myself in doors with my friend. Also anxiety and stress levels is very high. I am on 20mgs. Got gp appt on Monday. Will tell her all this.

Deborah, were you on any meds before this, and how long have you been on 20 mg?  Your symptoms sound like the ones I had when I was withdrawing from venlafaxine but didn't yet know it.  I guess the side effects can often be the same as the withdrawal effects.  Please do not be hard on yourself.  At this time you need to not judge yourself, be kind and caring to yourself.  Whether on meds, not on meds, or withdrawing from meds, none of us deserve to beat ourselves up.  Life is hard enough without being on our own side!  Try to see yourself as someone else who is suffering, and show that someone compassion, not judgement.  I hope you feel better soon :-)

I hope it works out for you. I was on fluoxetine for 6 weeks before I decided to finish on them because they made me feel uptight and restless. Previously I was on paroxetine but advised to go on fluoxetine because of my lack of motivation. I really didn't like fluoxetine and went back to a higher dose of paroxetine. I'm happier on paroxetine. I've been on it for 17 years. If fluoxetine doesn't work out for you, try paroxetine. Best of luck!
