Weight gain and joint pain

Hi ladies. I'm now coming up to 5 months post TAH and feeling so much better. Hang in there girls there is light at the end of the tunnel. I kept my ovaries but had been on Prostap prior to the op so had temporary menopause symptoms- even that has settled now so the ovaries must have started to awaken at last.

Any one else at my stage and battling weight issues and joint pain? I initially lost weight after the op but after weeks of relative inactivity and Christmas the weight came back. I've increased my exercise now (even managed round of badminton with my 9 year old son) and returned to work (though on holiday at the moment) but I am suffering with stiff back, stiff left ankle. Ok when moving but if I rest everything seems to seize up. I had all manner of back problems down left side and swollen ankle but put this down to the pressure my 'rugby ball sized' fibroid was causing. Problems seemed to disappeared after op but now I'm increasing my activity foot and back problems are recurring- not as bad though. Maybe things will get better as I regain muscular strength? Any one else having same probs? Any tips?

    Hi Sally

I am 11 weeks post op vaginal hysterectomy and posterior prolapse, I am experiencing left lower back pain and pain pressure inside vagina. I think it really must have something to do with the surgery and all the pulling about they do with us. It's awful some days, more so when I'm out walking or doing anything. When I lay down it eases. I feel for you because it's a pain to be feeling like this after all you've been through. Have you been to your doctor and asked? X

    Hi Sally,

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I'm wondering if massage and more stretching will help. Also, is it possible that in order to avoid pain caused by the surgery, you've been distributing your weight unevenly and thrown your joints out of alignment?

Hi Sally, I am 4 months post op, I am really struggling with my weight, I put the weight on prior to my op, I was on bed rest as I was so anaemia, I stuffed my face with everything I shouldn't 😕, so now I am paying for it, I have been doing the 5:2 diet for about 6 weeks and my waist has gone down 2 inches, I want to lose 6 or so kgs by July when I see my consultant again.

Hi Sally, like you and the other ladies on here I too am having problems with weight gain and join pain. Im four months post op TAH and I began hrt patches eight weeks post op. Ive put on a stone or more although i must admit ive been eating more than usual and giving in to chocolate in a big way. Add this to being relatively immobile. Im still having bowel problems which is so frustrating too.

Last week my back became painful and i wasnt sure if this was due to overcompensating with my posture as my stomach hurt. Alteratively i thought it could be due to pressure. My pain is also on the left side both of my stomach and back. Yesterday I keeled over on my ankle, and they feel week now... feel like ive aged 100 years since this op ha ha! its reassuring to hear that you other ladies are experiencing similar things  and im not going mad x

Hi jo that did make me laugh I keep saying since my op I feel about 75 that's now I dud feel 100 years old back in Dec lol. I had my op on Nov 15th we sound about the same time we had our op. I did try hrt after 7 week post op but I ended up on happy pills because I wonted a quick fix. I've just been today for hrt patches this time and 75mg which I will start tomorrow. I've had lots of water infections and lower left side pain and lower left site pain since my op. So check to see if you have a water infection? Iam seeing another docter about my bladder in may. I put on over 1 stone but like you was just eating everything but I did start my ww diet 2nd Jan and lost over 17 pounds but I just used to eat to make me happy. Have you gone back to work yet ? Xx

Hi Sam I went back to my gp this week and she said its just healing still.. I hsvent a watr infection. I had been given too high a dose of hrt a 100 patch and I felt what I can only describe as somewhat manic. I asked for 75 as id been happy on them. This was our female doc and she advised me more about the risk of btrast cancer as opposed to osteoporosis. Hence ive thought it through and am trying to cope naturally. Isnt it a game..No im still off work as in pain to do anything never mine teach young children. Still have low energy levels too. I do feel im healing.. just sooooo slow. Yes I think our recovery seems v similar x
