Weight loss...am I really sick and the dr. isn't catching it?

Why is it that when you Google perimenopause and weight loss it only talks about weight gain? It's so infuriating! It makes me feel like maybe something it wrong with me.

My drs. were all baffled too. I lost over 20 lbs. about a year ago. I had a battery of tests done, cause I thought I had cancer or something, turned out luckily I didn't. Drs. nor my OB Gyn. denied it having to do with menopauase, til I got on this forum and found others who went through, or are still going through it.

My weight eventually came back and then some, just took about 6 or 8 mos. to start seeing it come on. It's all hormones trust me, you will get it back. Just keep eating.

Hi lori, I experienced weight loss too, when I was going through peri also. I lost about 30 pounds in a four month period of time, due to loss of appetite. My doctor's refused to believe I was going through menopause. They said women gain weight. I thought I was dying also.

I have regained my appetite, along with 7 pounds now. Now I have to watch myself so I don't gain to much weight. What you are going through is due to hormonal changes.

I know how you feel.  I have lost 20 pounds in 2 months.  I'm 47 and my doctor said that I am perimenopausal.  Everything I have read talks about weight gain.  I went into a deep depression going into the holidays because I lost both my parents this past year.  I've been spotting a lot with some nausea and lightheadedness.  I didn't feel like eating.  My diet consisted of salads and chicken.  Perimenopause can bring on so many feelings.  Too few calories can really affect you.  Do you know how many calories you are getting each day?  I am also dehydrated.  I have been told that I will feel better as I up my calories, drink plenty of water and get some exercise and yoga.  I'm so sorry you are not feeling well.  I'm right there with you.

Yes, I also lost a lot of weight suddenly. I went through a horrible experience with it. About three years ago I started dropping weight for no known reason. I thought I was sick with some terrible disease too. It scared me because a lot people I knew were all dying of cancer. I had my doctors run tests and got the all clear but still couldn't keep my weight up. No matter what I did I couldn't. I had poor appetite a lot of the time and had bouts of gastritis. I went from 163lbs to 127lbs in about a year. Needless to say I was an eyesore to people I knew. There was one woman who publicly berated me because she wanted to know what was going on with me and my weight issue. One woman thought I was starving myself on purpose. It was really a hard time. I have gained weight since then. It's been about a year now since my weight has started coming back but I still have a way to go before it all comes back. I am around 135 and would like to be at around 150. But I am trusting that it will all come back once these hormones calm down. Hope yours will come back soon too!
