About 5 months ago, I started Prozac 20mg, after my Zoloft for severe ocd stopped working. It worked for about 9 years, they were great, then they stopped. The Prozac was a nightmare for me. From the moment it started I became dizzy and just never felt it worked right for me. After my doctor insisted I increase it, it only made matters worse. After I increased to 60 mg, I had to stop the Prozac because I could handle the side effects. My doctor suggested I switch to lexapro, which I did 5 days ago. I’ve been dizzy, lightheaded, and extra anxious the last week, ever since stopping the Prozac cold turkey. I also have been getting weird body tingles and just feeling out of it. I just need some reassurance that this feeling will go away. I feel like the dizzy and lightheaded sensation will never leave and I will be stuck like this forever. I also am convinced there is something seriously wrong with me like a brain tumor or something. Please help

I started Prozac at the beginning of the year. After a couple weeks I started experiencing the same symptoms as you. On top of all that I started not being able to sleep, which has never been a problem for me. It got so bad I went to the hospital and they admitted me and sedated me so I could sleep. The doc explained that Prozac stays in your system for a couple weeks so the side effects should start to go away after that. I was on Lexapro for years and had my anxiety in check. I thought I was doing great and tried to go off. Big mistake!!! Now I'm back on Lexapro and struggling but getting by.

You're probably having side effects from not only stopping the Prozac, but starting the Lexapro as well. The side effects are usually the worst the first two weeks. It's not at all uncommon for anxiety and depression to increase during those times.
?Whatever you do, don't make the mistake I did and let your doctor bump up your dosage of the Lexapro until you are on it at least 8 weeks. I thought 20 mg. of Citalopram (generic of Celexa) wasn't working for me after only a week (I didn't realize it was the side effects), so unbelievably my doctor put me on 40 mgs. Talk about bad side effects;-).
?I'm not sure how your dosage increases went with the Prozac, but if they were fast increases, that certainly could help explain why you had a tough time on Prozac.
