What have I done...pain to the left of my perenium

Wow what a roller coaster this recovery is...sorry for posting so much πŸ™ˆ

This afternoon I've started to get a lot of pain to the left hand side of my perenium, which goes up inside and into my bum (sorry for the bad description!) and it's only on the left. I'm currently alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen and it's not touching the pain...what on earth have I done?? I have laid on the sofa all afternoon! 😁

I had a posterior repair 3 weeks ago

You haven't done anything, the pain you describe is normal following prolapse repair. If you read previous posts you'll read that recovery is slow and I regularly mention that the pain gets worse from about 3-4 weeks as the sutures tighten. If your pain relief doesn't work you need something stronger, I took codeine for about 5 weeks.

I'm a but reluctant to take codine as I'm nervous about getting constipation, are there any other alternatives? Also Can my gp extend my sick note? There's no way I can go back to work like this, no position is comfortable with this throbbing pain.

There aren't really any alternatives to codeine but if you eat lots of fruit and vegetables and take a stool softener that would help. You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen together so that could help. Regarding your sicknote that's up to your GP but ideally you should stay off work for as long as possible although you haven't said what you do. The average time off is 8-10 weeks but I was off 13 and went back on graduated return.

I'm an accountant so desk bound but I can't sit for very long nor can i drive to work, I could work from home though. the consultant signed me off for four weeks! Just doesn't seem long enough?

Most consultants only sign patients off for 4 weeks and then you are supposed to go to see your GP for another sicknote probably for another 4 weeks and then see how you feel.

Thanks, I didn't realise that, they never mentioned it but will book an appointment for next week to see my go.

So I've apparently got a water infection yet have no normal symptoms like a raised temp or burning when I wee, how is that possible?? I know the tests don't lie I'm baffled as to why I have pain where I do, the NP I saw couldn't answer any of my questions and did carry out any examination, I have a real sense some else is going on.

I almost went a&e in the night it's so bad and I have a high pain threshold! I'm now in codine and that's not easing it either, can I take ibuprofen with codine?

It's quite common to have a UTI without symptoms. The way they test urine now is using sophisticated equipment that can pick up infection which they couldn't before so even if you have what they call a "low grade infection" it will pick it up. Sometimes these infections would clear on their own but that's not ideal especially if you get a lot of them because over time they can cause damage to the kidneys and ureters.

I'm on my last day of anti b's and the immense pain is still there...it makes me think the pain is due to the internal stitches...could it be the end of a stitch stabbing me like a needle thus causing irritation? The codeine isn't helping which makes me feel it has to be the stitches? Is this sensation normal? There is no position I can get into without pain but it intensifies with every moment. How long to the internal stitches takes to resolved as I'm guessing there's not a lot anyone can do if it's all inside?

The feeling like a needle with almost certainly be you stitches, they can be a nuisance but if the problem continues you can always make an appointment with the practice nurse at your surgery and she can clip the ends providing she can get to the stitch. Internal stitches are obviously dissolving and can take weeks to dissolve.
