What is my knee injury?

Hi all, hope someone can help.

I hurt my knee running over two weeks ago now. I was running along fine and it was a sharp twinge of pain that left me almost unable to walk home. I rested and iced for a couple of days and tried to run again but it was still way too sore (only when running and walking downhill), still resting and icing I waited a week to run again and it was still too sore. Even sore long distance walking and walking down hill. I tried going for a run 2 days ago with my knee bandaged up and it felt good until the way back I could feel a small ache but nothing major. Later that day I could barely walk I was in so much pain! I couldn't bend my knee or anything but the pain felt like it was behind my knee on the back/side of my leg and now it has swollen up and is even worse.. The pain began in my lower knee on the outside of my leg, then moved to above my knee on the same side, then across to the middle/top of my knee inside my leg and the swelling is on the inside above my knee (not on the cap at all and most of the pain has been around the cap)

I booked a doctors appointment but it's over a week away and I'm pretty uncomfortable and also missing a lot of the activities I love! please help

Also can't take anti-inflammatories because I am asthmatic

Insist on an me I to detect soft tissue damage. At 1st blush I am thinking torn meniscus. When they go it's without warning. For right now , rest and ice as we) as elevate to help blood flow. In hindsight a trip to E.R. probably wouldn't have been out of line. BTW, where are you located as there may be someone on here that's close by and has knowledge of the medical facilities in area

I'm not a doctor, so can't say what you've done, but what ever it is, it doesn't  sound good,  and I would think that by you constantly pushing it,  you are  definitely making it worse, you need to listen to your body, and rest, and wait for your appointment, or your gonna be in a lot more trouble, believe me, you won't like it if you screw it up completely, I'm an avid hiker, and just kept pushing, until I literally  couldn't go more than 100mertres on sticks, now I've had one knee done, and waiting for the other, if ide just slowed down, .😞

    Oh dear.

I have problems with my knees though I am a lot better since I had a knee replacement 3 years ago.

I find walking downhill a lot more difficult than uphill. I think you must use different muscles.

When you see your doctor ask if you can be referred to a knee specialist (consultant) Dr may offer you a cortisone injection, this does sometimes help depneding on how damaged the knee is.

In the meantime keep resting and putting ice on the kness to get the swelling down.

But do not abandon exercise all together or it will stiffen up.

Take care and keep in touch

If you can't get in to see your doc, even by making a lot of noise, then I suggest you go to Emergency. No sense in waiting around and asking us, see a doc asap.

    Best of luck

    Thanks all.

I live in the Isle of Man so help is pretty limited. It's also a bit strict here if I went to the emergency room they would turn me away.

Rang the doctors again today to try and get an earlier appointment, moved up til Tuesday but going to ring again later in case any cancellations today.

Continuing to ice and elevate as and when possible

Just want to know what it is and how to treat it so I can get back to my life! I'm not one to sit around so going crazy

This is one if the biggest problems. Seems as if leg problems are one of the hazzards of being active. In my case it was a very rare tumor that blew up and messed up my knee. I'm getting ready for surgery #11 as I've been fighting staph. I've actually been without a knee since March 4th and don't get the new one till june 25th. On a walker with leg in an immobilizer. One part of this, you must learn to be patient as not taking care of yourself can be a recipe for an even longer recovery. Anytime you have to have physical therapy there is a slow but generally very positive results. Keep us advised to diagnosis and progress
