What is the lowest dosage of Femoston?

Hi Ladies,

I am really struggling to get a doctors appt and need some advice.

i am still having periods, I am on Femoston 1/10 (the first two weeks Eostrogen, then second two weeks Progesterone). The Progesterone is causing heart palpitations. I think I need a lower dose, does a lower dose actually exist? Must be both Estrogen & Progesterone.

currently halving the tabs!

Thanks in advance x

Hiya, it says online that you may have breakthrough bleeding or spotting for the first few months on Femoston. Dr usually says give it three months for HRT to settle down. If the palpitations are really distressing you though you should go back to your GP and you should be able to get an emergency appointment. This was why I changed to gel and Utrogestan tabs as it's easier to adjust dosage if needed. If GP won't see you as an emergency do you have any Well Woman or menopause clinics nearby?

Hi, Femoston only comes in tablet form they do 1/10 or 2/10. They do say give it three months too settle down, Femoston has one of the nicer progesterone and ladies seem to tolerate it better than other ones in pills and patches, try and do some breathing excersise when you get the palpitation till you get to see your Gp, but I am sure they are on the list of side effects.

Thank you to both ladies that replied to me ??. Now that I'm on the Estrogeon part of the pack, the palpitations have gone.  I have 9 days before starting the horrible grey Progesterone ones again.  My. Last question is...(sorry)  I gather there is a Femoston 1/5 hrt??? But I have a feeling that on these ones you for the whole month take Est & Prog every day?  I am at the moment just having the 1/10 tabs & am curious to see if I continued with this whether the papatations would return once I move onto the Prog ones. Any advice would be appreciated. I will of course see the doc, but just curious about what to actually ask him for.

      thank you in advance x

hi, yes the 1/5 is continued use so you take estro & proge every day, these are given if you are post menopausal no bleed for 12months, you should not be put on these if you are Peri. If peri you need sequi so you shed the womb lining every month. You could try a patch form but having read about other ladies they tend to go back to Femoston for the kinder prog. It is all trial for us I'm afraid but do give it three months to see if the palpitations settle .

Thank you, you have been really helpful. I am peri so will prob just stick with what I'm on for now. I've been halving all the tabs to achieve lower dosage but bet the doc won't like that. Thanks again x

Hi, no bet he won't like that, the prog gives you what they call a break through bleed to stop the womb of your lining building up ( which can cause cancer), so maybe not a good idea splitting them , but have a word with gp they know best , let us know how you get on x

Well...the doctor was not much help. There is no lower dose, so I need to give existing 1/10 tabs more time to see if side effects settle down. If the heart palpatations come back then I think

I will just stop it all together.  She did offer anti depressants as an alternative but I suffer from insomnia anyway and AD seem to  make it worse.  I have requested a referral letter as may go and see a specialist of some kind.  What a drag! X

Hi, sorry to hear your GP could not help you on this visit, it is your decision, but I would see if it levelled out after 3 months, I agree would not start on AD. A specialist appt will help but sometimes these can take a while to come through so in the meantime whilst waiting give them a little longer xx
