What's up with my skin?

The skin on the head of my penis looks wrinkled or scaly. It feels extra smooth and seems slightly grayish in colour.

I was (and still am) worried about STDs, because I have a reddish patch at the base of my penis, and I've been getting break outside in my pelvic/groin area. I saw an urgent care doc who said that thise didn't look like anything to worry about, although didn't look at the skin seen here. (blood tests all came back clean except hsv1, but I'm not too surprised by that since I get cold sores on my lips sometimes. )

Scanning around the iNet and I think it could potentially be something like balanitis. what does everyone else think?

In terms of this: " The skin on the head of my penis looks wrinkled or scaly. It feels extra smooth and seems slightly grayish in colour " - it would be a Dermatologist that can help you with this.

From my own experience you need to exclude contact with soap, shower gel and other forms of body wash directly to the skin on the upper part of your penis, particularly the head / glans.

Lots of men gain benefit from using Liquid Coconut Oil that is intended for use on the skin. Apply a very light coating after drying yourself following a shower - 2 or 3 applications a week is all you need. You may not notice any difference for potentially up to a year - but if you put in place what I suggest your penile skin will eventually become healthier.

In terms of this: " I was (and still am) worried about STD " - the ONLY way you can achieve peace of mind on this is to work with sexual health medical professionals so that YOU fully understand that either ALL potential issues have been treated and overcome, and / or that what you have present is not an issue or that it can be treated in particular ways, going forward

Liquid coconut oil? Do you have any product recommendations?

My doctor said I should try eucalyptus soap. He's giving me antibiotics for prostatitis and running tests before sending me to a urologist. He mentioned a dermatologist but didn't recommend me to one.

My skin is all red, and scaly I guess, and hurts to the touch. I still worry about an std being the cause of it, but I haven't really seen any listing dry peeling skin as a symptom, so it's likely an irritation. At least I hope so.

In terms of the coconut oil the best is 99% pure - must be for use on skin! Places like the body shop sell the best if you happen to live in the UK. Do NOT apply it to the base of your penis until the issue there is fully cleared!

What you have going on at the base of your penis is usually due to extremal irritation - and this can be caused by quite literally anything the skin is in contact with from soap and shower gel, to washing powder - or it is possible you have a slight fungal / yeast problem. And, this could be why the doctor suggested eucalyptus soap. If you do try anything like this you MUST prevent it from contacting the upper part of your penis, and in particular, the foreskin / head area.

If you are able to set-up your own appointment with a Dermatologist I would recommend you do so
