    Hi Michelle,

I know its not what you want to here but it took near 3-4 months for fluoxetine to take hold of me but thank god I stuck with it! The first 8 weeks were so hard and I remember thinking that it just wasn't worth taking them. But after reading reviews on here I stuck with it and am so glad I did. I take fluoxetine for anxiety. I should stick with it till at least week 8 and please remember it will get better x

hello Michelle, well the first thing I would advise you to do is, sorry to say, be patient. no disrespect meant smile sadly for all involved the length of time varies between 8 to 12 weeks for maximum benefits to begin being felt, and even then you will get the odd yuck day, but as time passes they become further apart and the sun begins to shine again!! I'm guessing you are on 20mgs, if after say the 4-5 week mark you are still not seeing any improvement then your doctor may put you up to 40mgs per day or perhaps advise trying something else. Good luck Michelle, I wish you well on your Fluoxetine journey smile hey there are some lovely people on here all at various stages of getting better so you will never be short of good advice also reassurance when you are feeling blue, caio cheesygrin

      Hi michelle

I had 8 wks citalopram before starting fluox, cit just didnt suit. I felt worse for first 6-8 wks 20mg fluox but then things started to improve. I know its not what you want to hear but its seems thats a fairly normal timetable of progress (if you google timetable for recovery on fluoxetine someone has generalised peoples experiences, it was an eye opener to me as I was just desperate to get better but it helped me realise theres no quick fix!).

I understand its almost impossible to have patience when you feel so crap but you do really need to give it time and it will be very much up and down unfortunately. 3wks sounds way too soon to up the dose as the fluox wont have really kicked in (2-3wks it suggests in leaflet is not realistic at all when you read peoples actual experience on here).

I only stuck it out because of the advice on here but im glad I did. Im around wk14 and improved 70-80% on 20mg but had other stuff going on dragging me down. Ive just upped to 30mg (20/40 alternate days) to see if it'll bring me closer to 100%. I have an 8 yr old daughter and its been hard to keeping it from her-its so hard esp with young kids.

Hope you find the strength to stick it out, you can and will get better but it does take time.

Wishing you all the best for youe recocery :-)

oh Michelle I feel your pain, but I do hope that 40mgs does for you what it has done for me, the one factor sadly that you have to contend with is TIME, it's no quick fix I'm afraid, and you will have your patience stretched to the limit and beyond some days, but the pain and suffering IS worth it in the end, so gently does it, one day at a time, and slowly but surely you will emerge from the haze and wonder what all the fuss is about, keep smiling smile

I did many a school run with my nightie on under my jeans n jumper then went straight back to bed cos I felt so rough. Dunno what anyone would think if id been in any kind of accident ????!!!!! haha :-0

You'll find a way through it just dont try to rush it. Good luck with the 40 mg.

Im wk 14 n not 100% but getting there. its been slow progress but im a million miles from where I started so for me its worth it (the alternative of living with anxiety /depression was a miserable existence, I wasn't me). The everyday stuff got easier from wk 6ish I guess and I stopped doing the school run in my nightie!! :-)
