What were your fluoxatine expiriences?

I’ve been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and have struggled coping with it for over 4 years now.

I tried to avoid antidepressants for as long as I can remember until 2 months ago when I was prescribed sertraline.

Unfortunately I had a sever reaction and have since been prescribed fluoxatine.

I am on day 2 of taking 20mg of Fluoxatine also known as Prozac.

I have been taking them at 9am and go through about 2/3 hours of being very tired/spaced out. Get s dry mouth and hot flushes.

These side effects are knowhere near as bad as the ones I experienced on sertraline.

However my concern is that I will need to go back to work on Monday (three days time)  do I a, change my medication time or b, stop taking them completely?

Hi , hope that Fluoxetine continues to help you and all you need to do is alter the time you take your capsule , I used to take mine at 7am before I went to work and it worked fine . I wish you all the very best with your medication and hope that it won’t be long until it has the desired effect on your anxiety and depression .

      Thank you!

How long did it take before you went back to work after taking them I’f you had time off?

I am hoping this spaced out feeling will go before I go back.

      Hi

Well I didn’t go back to work unfortunately , I went off work after having terrible panic attacks at work I was diagnosed with Anxiety and depression and put on venlafaxine I tried to persevere with the venlafaxine and the awful side effects , my Gp increased the dose in an effort to combat the awful depression but it was of no use at all , fortunately the antidepressant was changed to Fluoxetine and like you felt abut woody for a few days but thankfully that settled down . I have since retired due to the severe stress of my job and I felt it just wasn’t worth my health breakdown . But I wish you all the best and stick with it x

Hi kaml sorry your feeling like you are, just carry on taking them in the morin, just do it early, b4 u start work... Prozac is a very, very slow working med, and the first 14 days can be rough, and you feel worse then b4 you started this med, but that’s just normal, we’ve all been through this, at day 6, I was on here thinking I couldn’t go on as felt so bad, but I spoke to a lovely lady Laurie who said keep going as it will get better, and I did thank god, as now it’s all settled down I’m feeling great, and now on 60mg, and I would not come of this now...

So try and stick with it, as way to early for you to see some improvement, but you will get there, and when your body does get use to Prozac it’s great, and your depression will be better...

If you decide to come of it, just be aware you will still get some withdrawal symptoms, it won’t stop straight away, so if you can, keep going at least give it 2/4 weeks then see how your going, it mite seem for ever now, but it passes quick, as much as we all want this med to work yesterday, it just doesn’t with this one...

Keep talking on here,we will help you through it, big hug 🤗xx

Hi kami, please don't stop taking the meds, it won't do you. any good , keep going . its not necessary to take them exactly at a said time .Just take them when you can as near the time as you was , you'll be OK , but if you get side effects whilst on them as its early days yet and if you read the posts on this forum , you will see that it does get better !!!!! Good luck!! Xxxxx

Thank you so much for all of your replies today.

I’ve struggled more today than yesterday but I’m still going to try the 3rd one tomorrow.

    I’m hoping it settles down.

I need to do something because nothing else seems to work for long enough so hoping it will all be worth it and the side effects will wear off soon.
