When did I contract it?

So my first real herpes outbreak began about a month ago, I had unprotected sex with someone and about three days later I began with the symptoms; fever, itchiness, and soon after developed sores. Now, I believed that I contracted it from this person but upon further review of my symptoms and where my sores have developed I think I might have gotten it from someone else?

The itching is what gave it away, I used to get very itchy around my anal area months prior, nothing as bad as now but the sensation was the same. Could another encounter with the virus have triggered the more severe symptoms?

How were you diagnosed? Swab, blood or both?

I haven’t done either, I just developed symptoms, went to the doctor and she said “yep, you have herpes,” and put me on antivirals.

Lol what type of doctor is that ?  Where she didn’t even check you to make sure. I suggest you change your doctor and get tested for hsv1/2 iGG in a couple months so be for sure

Ok that wasn’t very good for your doc to do that. What I would suggest is getting an igg (blood test) for hsv 1 and 2 right away and here’s why...a good way of getting an idea if it’s a recent infection is to get a blood test when you have symptoms...it takes the body’s approx  a few months to build up enough antibodies to show on a blood test...small window but once it’s passed that’s it. So for example you experience symptoms on Friday and get a blood test the following week...if the blood test is negative it’s because you’ve just been exposed and your body hasn’t made the antibodies...if it’s positive then it’s more likely to be an older infection.
