Hi Helen yes you are echoing everything we have all said - not enough information!!! However i am 8 1/2 weeks post A&P repair and last week i was in agony down below - so so sore and achy and just really uncomfortable but yesterday i woke up and felt wonderful - discomfort had gone from a 9 to a 1 out of ten! I have bought some disposable ice packs and used one on Thursday evening so whether that helped I dont know but so far so good! It does take time just try and rest as much as you can - it will get better - i was so miserable last week and today feel great so it will happen.

helen it's still early days and I wouldn't expect your bulge to have gone away yet and I always say expect pain at this stage. You've been sutured tightly and there's always trauma down there for a while. You still need to rest x

Thank you matron , u r always reassuring , i felt fine after my anterior repair but all these wee niggles get on top of me at times and have me having little panic attacks , resting as much as I can and still don't have my baby with me during the day ,guess I just want to be 100 % asap so I can have her back home x

helen the recovery from an anterior repair is different. The recovery time is shorter and less painful. If you think about the bowel and how large it is (sorry tmi I know but need to explain) and then it prolapses. Very different and a more complicated procedure to repair.

Sorry helen, I thought you had an anterior repair previously and this time had a posterior repair.

Should I still have a bulge etc with anterior repair xx

Yes you will still have a bulge, it's swelling from the surgery. Whenever a part of you body is operated on you are likely to get some swelling due to the incision and the handling of that part of the body. The pelvic floor area is particularly sensitive and needs careful handling but invariably you'll get trauma and swelling as the body starts to heal, albeit very slowly. An anterior repair is apparently less painful than a posterior repair but a lot depends on a patients pain threshold and the extent of the prolapse.....everyone is different and reacts differently. So yes you'll have a bulge and it could take some time to completely disappear so don't worry x

I'm almost 5 weeks post op (a&p) and feeling the same way.  I also have a constant ache left hand side similiar to period pains?  I had limited advice on how I would heal and nil regarding the emotional impact.  This forum is the only thing giving me reassurance... thanks everyone especially Matron.  Hopefully we will be feeling better soon Helen x

Hello SMM103. The ache on your left had side is common following a posterior repair because that's the side where your bowel will have prolapsed and obviously it's been handled and sutured in that area. It does get better.........I promise x

I too have ache in left side, thought I had strained or twisted inside due to being so inactive and getting unfit. Glad to know it's just the posterior repair.

      Xx
