Hello! In an aim to feel less alone with a diagnosis that I never get to talk about, I was wondering if we could all share the following;

Where are you located?

How old are you?

What type of gHSV do you have?

I don't want to feel alone in this anymore!

    Hi,

    I'm from New Zealand and I'm 26 and I was diagnosed with HSV-1 on Sunday.

    I have been in a relationship for eight years, so it's possible my partner has the virus without showing any symptoms or that I have been carrying the virus for years without any symptoms. I have been very stressed and run down over the last three months or so which would explain a lot.

    I was very upset and angry and alone in the beginning. But reassurance from my GP, partner and these forums have helped immensely. It is just cold sores, but down there. No one bats an eyelid when they see a cold sore? The stigma is what makes us feel alone.

    The pain is the worst I have felt in my life!! It is absolute agony. I was using anti viral medication, 4× painkillers every four hours and a topical anaesthetic all of which only took the edge off. I went back to my doctor yesterday who prescribed codeine and now I'm starting to come right after a decent nights sleep. The itching is very frustrating though so Im still using ice packs throughout the night.

    You are not alone :-)
