Hi all, another question for you post op ladies please.... I'm having my complete hysterectomy inc ovaries done by keyhole. Do you think i will have to stay in overnight or is that only if open surgery. I Dont have my pre assessment for a while and admin just asked me to check at this appointment when I called. Thank you

Hi yes I would have thought you would stay at least one night. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and I was in for four days.

I had vaginal and was in for two nights, so I would be extremely surprised if they let you out.  You are likely to have a catheter for the first 24 hours.

Thank you all. Typically my date is 2 days before my youngest goes on a school residential and although I can get him packed before I go in it would be handy if I was back to organize all the last minute checks etc even if just supervising and getting hubby to do the lifting. Things that are logical to me don't occur to him lol. I will be writing lists just in case!

You were lucky I had similar but was in for four days the catheter didn't come out till the end of the second day, everyone is individual and every hospital different. I couldn't wait to get out x

I was in overnight if you have had pro step injections prior to your op it shrinks everything down eg fibriods then they suck it out via keyhole simple as that l asked the question as well was baffled how they did it x

Thank you. I've had two stage op one to cut all fused bits and clean up and now waiting for actual op to remove the lot but did wonder how hell it got out through a 1cm hole! I reacted to zoladex so been 5 months back natural hormones but hoping its not enough time to grow back too much although this month is first month pain started again so hoping not too much grown again rolleyes wasn't offered pro step so not sure if similar to zoladex. X

I think it is it was the best thing about it for me except for the hot flushes I cudnt take hrt bad reaction so just put up with them but after op kept my ovaries started taking sage oil and within 2 weeks flushes stopped don't know if sage oil or my ovaries kicked back in never the less just glad they stopped it's trial and error really fingers crossed lol good luck with your recovery x

I think because they want to monitor you for any bleeding, plan to stay at least one night. I had a vagional hysterectomy and no complications, they kept a cathetar in overnight and compression boots on to help with circulation. The only suggestion I have is stick with regular doses of pain medication, because if you wait to long it's hard to catch up. Do buy laxitives! That was the worst pain I had post-op! Good Luck!
