Wisdom Teeth Extracted 2 years ago still swollen

I've had both my bottom wisdom teeth extracted, one side is fine the other side the area where the wisdom teeth was extracted swells up as the day goes on making it hard for me to speak. I've been to the dentist numerous times and they've found nothing and say there's nothing they can do. It's been pretty frustrating cause it causes me to bite my tongue at times and its very hard to speak sometimes. Has anybody experience this or know what the problem is?

I'd also like to mention that it doesn't hurt, it just swells up.

Have you seen a doctor to make sure it's not due to damage to your salivary glands on the affected side?

Yes, I've been to the dentist several times and she can't find anything wrong. She also sent me to a periodontist who also couldn't find anything wrong. But my mouth does feel dry alot now that to mention it. I always have to chew gum or suck on a candy or else my tongue gets really dry.

Sounds like a salivary gland problem. A dentist should be able to pick up on this kind of thing but they don't always. A general or ENT doctor would be a better bet. Google Sjogren's syndrome as well. There's also a Sjogren's section on this site.

Thanks Lily, I'll ask my dentist about the salivary gland on Monday as I'll be seeing her again regarding this issue. That sounds like the most logical reason for what I'm experiencing. Thanks for your help!

A doctor would be more likely to help with a salivary gland problem than a dentist. Sad but true. Dentists should know all about this system but they don't always.

I just realized that it's not where the wisdom teeth area is, its where the 2nd molar is and it's the inside cheek gums that swell into the teeth...

I definitely think you should see a stomatologist (usually called an oral surgeon in the US, I think). This doesn't seem normal at all.
