Hi there. I've been on 15mg Mirtazapine for 5 years and decided (along with my doctor) that it was time to come off them. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and I'm putting that down to these tablets. My doctor gradually took me off them over a period of 4 weeks. 1 every second night for 2 weeks then 1 every third night for 2 weeks. My last tablet was 11 nights ago and the withdrawal symptoms I've been getting for the past week are horrendous. Restless sleep, night sweats, shakes, itching and the worst one is the nausea feeling and not being able to eat. I was going to phone my doctor for advise. Can anyone help? I'm at breaking point as it's knocking me for 6.

In my withdrawal from Mirt I had the same problems as you when I dropped too quickly. The lovely people on here and especially Calmer gave me great advice and reassurance and by following her advice on a very slow taper am now down to 2mg with no problems. Clearly some people can drop quickly and cope but I'm one of the many that can't and am so thankful for the advice on this forum.

Thank you, means a lot.
I'm glad to hear its working out for you, you're lower on the dose than me now I have to say, getting lower (2.85 mg) have brought on a few tummy problems, waiting for stabilisation ... ugh !
Best wishes to you.

Thanks but in fact I'm just above you ! - I miscalculated. I am down to 0.2ml liquid Mirt which is 3mg. I think I will stabilise at that for a while before any further drops. Am still sleeping well which is so important. Even though it sounds such a small amount - am in no hurry to go more than the 5% at a time as I,ve learned my lesson from too rapid a drop. I have to say your help and guidance has been a lifesaver - god bless you and good luck on this journey we are on!

Hi my cloud,
Bless you, the pleasure is mine (curtsies).
You're doing great, keeping that sleep pattern is the best thing; as long as we play it safe, waiting for stabilisation, and letting the nervous system catch up with the physical side of tapering, the sleep should restore to coping without the drug I think, I'm hoping!
I have to say, I am at 0.19 ml liquid, (2.85 mg) it is hard to see the lines on the syringe now, I think this is a difficult one ... I am wondering about mixing the liquid Mirt' 50/50 with water - but of course am not sure if it will mix ... hmmm. Food for thought anyway. If anyone has tried this can you let me know please?
Anyone else thinking of liquid Mirt, remember that the ml and mg are not the same, 1 ml = 15 mg.

Just to say my prescription of liquid mirt is malitol based and mixes easily with water so now we are down at low doses diluting it down 50:50 or even more dilute makes life easier. If diluting down to make a few days supply then I would keep the solution in the fridge

Yes it will be easier, more maths & scribbles on the box to remind ourselves where we're at !!
I will probably start the 50/50 at the next drop - making a 5 day supply in a seperate bottle, so 5 x the dose of Mirt' & 5 x same dose of water.
Where in UK are you my cloud? I'm in Nottingham.
Best wishes

Hi Calmer
Greetings from Wales ! but I don’t think I’ll be doing any withdrawal dose  calculations like you for a few days after this afternoons experience. Will explain as it may help others. I had a tooth filled at the Dentist. Have never had any problems or worries over Dentist visits and felt fine going into the surgery. However a few minutes after the injections to numb the gum before  the filling I suddenly felt very faint, my heart rate went up like an express train and I felt awful – all my old problems and panic attacks had returned !!. Anyway I recovered just enough to complete treatment but  now at home feeling as though I’ve regressed 6 months.   On googling dental injections have just found out that they can contain adrenaline which, especially if the injection happens to hit a blood vessel, can cause the problems I had (and especially for little sensitive me!). I hope so and it’s not a delayed reaction to my last Mirt reduction where symptoms do take a few days to show. Fingers crossed.

Hi My cloud
Yayyy, hello Wales from Robin Hood Country
Good to swap notes ... the subject of adrenaline has come up before for people tapering Mirt; believe it or not the very same thing happened to me at the dentist !!! I will pop some notes in your message box, and explain why not on here. But fear not, there is an answer, we'll get this Mirt' taper one way or another ~ it is NOT any of your old symptoms returning yayyyy !! I'll bet you were absolutely wiped out after that awful experience, I know I was, I remember having to rest later in the afternoon, I fell asleep and really needed to rest.
I spoke to the pharmacist his morning re mixing a 5 days supply of Mirt syrup 50/50-water in a seperate bottle, she said there may be issues with stability, which I expected, but by doing only the 5 days and a read good shake and a real good stir it should be fine, I also picked up something for my tum, so no further drop for me until tum is settled.
Best wishes

Thank you everyone for your support. I've just phoned and left a message for my doctor. I'm guessing he might just prescribe me with anti sickness and anti histimines though. Trying to get an appointment with my doctor is a nightmare though and can't wait 2 weeks for an appointment. We'll see how I get with my message left for him. Thank you everyone x

As I guessed...doc prescribed me anti sickness and anti hisitmine tablets. He also said "unusual side affects???" . Will see how I get on over next couple of days and if no change I'll be making emergency docs appointment. X
