Wondering if Fluoxetine is right for me

This past week has been absolute hell, and I'm starting to wonder if Fluoxetine is right for me.

I took it years ago with hardly any side effects whatsoever, but this time round it doesn't seem to be as effective.

It's been just over 3 weeks now, and I've had so many side effects (nausea, vomiting, heightened anxiety, sweating, shaking, feeling week, insomnia, loss of appetite and overthinking).

By week 2 I thought I was making progress, but in the middle of week 3 I fell back again and started to feel awful.

I just feel so miserable and fed up, I'm starting to wonder if i'm on the right medication.

I feel trapped within my own body and in my own mind.

I get small moments of relaxation now and then, brief moments of rational thought. But the nausea and insomnia is taking it's toll. I don't want to keep losing weight on this antidepressant.

Another fear I keep having is that i'm suffering from serotonin syndrome. Either way I'm going to my doctor tomorrow to see what can be done. I need to get better.

Robert I was exactly the same in the first 3 weeks. I lost weight and still have insomnia. But it does get better. All the side effects show that the Prozac is working which sounds crazy, but it just makes you worse before it makes you better.

I've had Serotonin Syndrome and I can tell you 100% that you do not have it.

I just upped to 40mg as 20mg was good but not enough for me. Sadly I am back to being miserable too. But all this will pass.

      Hi Dom,

I'm just finding it so difficult at the moment, I feel like i'm not getting any better or showing any sign of improvement. It's just so agonizing feeling like this, I just want my appetite and my life back.

I just really hope my doctor can reassure or offer something to help out with these side effects. I'm trying to be strong, but it's getting too much to handle.

I so know that feeling Robert. I have it a bit now with my dose increase to 40mg. But it does get better. Week 3 was so rough for me, but then by week 5 I was making good progress. It's a living nightmare when you start or change dose but it gets so much better.

PS I was on it before and had no side effects. It is so strange to be getting them all this time around, but seems to be common. I won't be coming off them again.

I'm really hoping that the side effects clear up this week, I have to keep forcing myself to eat, even if I feel nauseated. It's so difficult and I've thrown up a few times (then kept eating). I just hope my doctor can give me advice and support because I really want my life back.

The doc gave me diazepam then Lorazepam in case I got too anxious Robert. I stopped using any of them 5 days ago. You've got this far so just a few more weeks to go. You're more than half way to starting to feel a lot better than you do.
