Work in an infant school....time off?

Hi

I'm on the THR list and will be done in a few months.  I work in an infant school so bending, sitting etc will need careful managing.  Does anyone else work in a similar environment and if is, how long have you taken off to recuperate before returning..?  Thanks.

i am a DT teacher in a large (1200 students)` challenging` secondary school and I had 8 weeks off - the students became my `grabber` and were happy to pick things up if they fell, i still use the crutch when moving through school at break and lunch so they are aware and dont trip me up but obviously in infants there is the height issue - perching on tables might be a possibility rather than getting right down to their level    xx

Hi , I was a senior manager in key stage 1 and Foundation Phasa and was lucky  ( if you can call it that ?) to have early retirement through ill health with back probs 8 years ago . 3 years ago I had hip probs and it's a long story but eventually had a THR 13 weeks ago today !

so I know what you are facing when you go back to work .

my Grandaughter is 13 months and I have only been able to look after het for 2 hours since last week .

pleade don't go back to work too soon , I  totally understand how important money is as both my son and D in Law are teachers but your health is priceless !

i am sure I am older than you , just turned 60 but still have difficulty kneeling down , and you know how often a day you do that in school!

my probs def have a lot to do with teaching early years for 40 years !

    good luck

I have worked as a self employed childcare in my home for 30+ years. I had a right total hip replaced 13 weeks ago.  All is great now!  I thought I would be back with my kids after 2 weeks because my helper could do most things while I could be watchful eyes and sitting at table for crafts and reading.  But, my femur bone cracked during surgery so I couldn't even walk on it without a walker for 6 weeks. Then had to learn to use my leg and walk again so it took longer.  So I would say I felt really good at around 10 weeks. Now at 13 weeks I'm changing diapers on the floor (only on knees) cooking, crafting, reading holding little ones. If I need to pick up something I stick my leg up out the back like a yoga pose, or ask a child for help which they like to do.  But I do feel all my energy level is not up to par as it was before, but  that's ok.  Parents know I may sit more then I did for a while and not picking anyone up. They are just so thankful to have me back open and I am thrilled to have an income again!  Feeling better every day!

Thanks for your responses.  I am hoping to take at least 3 months off if the GP and hospital agree.  Cons at present says at least 8 weeks.  I want a bit longer than that and having read your posts will take heed.  Thanks!
