Worried

hello I have had pains under my right rib, which has got worse over the weeks. I was originally referred for physio therapy, I had to wait 6 weeks for an appointment, during this time the pain got worse and constant.  I was refereed back to my G.P for blood test etc.  I have had a blood test and everything is normal and no infection.  I have been referred for an ultrasound and have been given two types of antibiotic to take...since taking the antibiotics the pain has significantly reduced. I'm very happy about that but I am worried that I have gallstones.  Has anyone out there had a similar situation to myself and what was your outcome.  Many thanks

I was diagnosed with gallstones at Christmas last year having had an ultrasound scan which showed up the gallstones.

I had my gallbladder removed at end of April.

I am better than I was but still not completely right.

My advice would be if ultrasound shows you have gallstones then have your gallbladder removed. I was only in for the day and had keyhole surgery.

    Hope this helps.

Take care and keep in touch.

    Sarah

I will keep in touch, thank you for your advice.  It's been a bit of a shock but I suppose all will be revealed at the ultra sound. I can't be out of action for too long I have two young children and I have been on a mission to get fit! This has knocked me for 6! Thanks again and sorry to hear you have been poorly too.

    Hi Kerry

try not to worry . I lived with gallstones for 15 years before being diagnosed .. They are excruciatingly painful when u have a colic vomiting attack and the low level gnawing pain is miserable .. But if you are diagnosed with them there is a long wait for the operation as they are not life threatening unless a stone becomes blocked in a bile duct and you would know if that happened and would be up casualty in a shot ...

Basically many people avoid surgery and eat a no fat diet to avoid attacks ..but I had mine removed by  keyhole surgery day surgery it was the solution to all my problems ...no side effects .. So just wait for your scan and try not to worry ... Sally

Thank you for your advice, roll on the scan! I have suffered heartburn for years after having my children.  I have been working hard to get fit and I have dropped two dress sizes and now this happens! I'm so sorry to hear you had been poorly too and I'm glad your feeling better now.

lets know if your pain comes back after about four weeks from finish of antibiotics.

this happened to me and was written up in notes but then no follow up.

my specialists just write down what their previous collegues wrote.

my gp downright refused to give me antibiotics but here in spain you can just buy em from the farmacia.

Hi kerry, i had a very similar situation i ended up in a&e then straight up to ward for a week on antibiotics with an infection. After a week or 2 off them the attacks came back i went bsck to a&e pumped fill of antibiotics but no infection so not given any more. I went in a further 3 times to be told time after time no infection but i had oral thrush horrible breath it was vile. I too was on a health kick just before id lost 3 stone and throughout everything ive now lost 5st 3lbs.

2 weeks before my op it was confirmed i did have an infection pumped full of antibiotics i was scared my op would be cancelled but no infection on preop bloods.

Im now 11 days post op no thrush no bad breath no pain i have started to get my life back and im back to work monday.

If they find stones as sally said get the op yiu wont be out of action long i was in and out within 10 hours and was up and walking about 1/2hour after coming out of recovery. You will be surprised just how different youll feel.

Good luck keep in touch and anything else you want to know just ask dont sit and worry i did then i found this site and people have been through it all and can offer fantastic advise Xxxx
