Worried about Easopheagus

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi, I'm 25 and have had issues with reflux for a while but always treated myself with Zantac, it was so sporadic like maybe once every 3-4 months if that.

For the last 2 or 3 weeks I've had constant chest pains, indigestion, nausea and a sore and tender stomach when pressure is applied. I've been under severe stress since December so at first I put it all down to that. However what is worrying me is that my symptoms are constant and I'm concerned about the chest pains. I suffer from anxiety and I'm worried I've left my Gerd untreated or haven't properly treated it and now I may have a damaged Easopheagus or Barrett's.

Not sure what to think. But I'll be making an appt with my doctor.

Dear Danni, best to get an endoscophy done that will show any problems if any, i think with barrets oesephigus that happens over a period of time, i had oesophagitis before and it does take a while to clear and gastitis if you get that. I would ask for that endoscophy.

    Hi Dani,

You are doing the right thing going to your doctor. Worry doesn't help stomach problems, and it's good to get checked out. They will probably do some tests, although an endoscopy will not be done until other checks are done - and they will probably suggest medication before this would be considered (they usually give you meds for a few weeks and see how you feel) - but I would  also add Barretts is a problem that happens after a long period of time.

Thanks for the replies. Trying to stay calm as like you said worry doesn't help stomach problems.

I went through exactly the same some time ago. I saw my GP who gave me meds to try for 8 weeks and they worked really well. I was then sent for an endscopy and the specialist confirmed I had reflux and told me to continue the medication and I am now pain free. Ocassionally I get a flare up like kast night, not sure what triggered it, but I took an extra dose of the PPI and pain was gone shortly afterwards. SO nothig to stress about, doctor will get your sorted.

Hi Danni, i have suffered with indigestion for last few years. It seems to flare up then settle but this year its been getting worse. Like you its the chest pains that worries me, i am going for yet another ecg on Tuesday at gp surgery. I know its the acid but need reassurance.  Stress is bad for indigestion as had quite a bit myself this year. I am waiting for the endoscopy which will hopefully give me some answers.
