Hey guys
Hope all is well.
Cut a long story short I used to go to a casual cafe for a very long time where I met friends there.
Recently I stopped going as trouble happened which involved all of us giving me a bad name.
Earlier today I went to a different cafe which is in the same area but far enough where I bumped into an acquaintance from the old one.
He asked in passing that I haven't been to the old one, to which I explained briefly why and mentioned a name of a worker there.
Straight after that I panicked thinking "god please don't tell anyone as I shouldn't have said that and If someone in the old one were to find out it would cause disaster". I think you can get the drift of what I mean.
Just before I left I mentioned to him not to tell anyone I was here and not to speak to anyone to which he agreed.
Now I feeling terrified if by chance word were to spread if he mentioned me.

Hi Adam - sorry to read of your situation. The cats out of the bag. In your situation, I would assume that the person I told - who knows people I know, who meets others I know in a cafe situation where I went, where there is socialising and gossip, and where the object of my drama works - will tell someone else who will tell someone who will tell someone else....you get the drift. There are two things you can do: create a whole new routine and avoid all those connected to the matter; or stride back into the cafe as if nothing has happened, prepare for the worst, let the gossip-mongers have their day, laugh it off (or apologise if that's what it takes), then wait for something else to happen to someone else thereby presenting a new carcass for the gossips to feed on. The last thing you do is to endlessly ponder the matter from the standpoint of guilt, building it to gigantic, catastrophic proportions in your head until it becomes a paranoia that has you thinking everyone is judging/hating/laughing at me.
On the other hand, the acquaintance might just say nothing. But what about you? Are you going to spend life avoiding people and places because you may have made a mistake? We all make mistakes. The challenge is whether we hide them, deny them, or just own them and get on with living.
