hi
i went for an EMG to find if ankle pain was due to back. The normal testing with the zaps was uncomfortable but ok. The neuro then inserted a needle in my calf /ankle area which left me screaming in pain.
Went home and have been walking with a cane since. In the morning I cannot even make it to the bathroom without holding on to walls or using the cane as pain in ankle unbearable when bearing weight.
Also have pins and needles feeling which did not have before. The pins needle feeling is worse mornings or after periods of rest - like putting my feet up watching tv.
I discussed this with the neuro who only advised to double the Gabapentin dose to 600 three times a day. I also take tramadol but not much help.
Any insight appreciated

Sorry, I've had that done. They stuck the needle in about thirty times all down the thighs and calves to the ankles. That's what it is. Nothing you can do except take appropriate pain killer until effect wears off. I did n't have any after effect. You need to move more, not less. The more you move the less pain you'll feel. Preferably walk, slowly about twenty mins. The less you move the more pain you'll have.

Thank you so much for your reply. I had lots of small needles giving me little shocks. That was only mildly uncomfortable. Did you have a big one inserted front calf area - I screamed the pain was horrible - I think probed too close to nerve and irritated it. Hope no damage.
I have been trying to move - it just hurts so much

Well, I had one VERY LONG THIN needle inserted over and over again many many times, 30/40? (I had to sign a document recognising that I would put up with the ensueing pain.) into the muscles of the thigh and calf to discover the nerve damge. Obviously IF it doesn't hurt it's not working. IF You're not feeling pain then your nerves are damaged! It's supposed to be painful, having needles stuck into a normal undamaged nerve is going to be very painful. So where it doesn't react is where the damge is. In my case I have Sciatic nerve damge to the Sciatic Nerve in the groin and front of thigh down almost to the knee. They can't go too close to the nerve , they have to do exactly what they did. It's always painful unless you're Tetraplegic. or PARALYSED!You should be happy it hurt, shows you've got less damage! , Sorry to be so unsympathetic , but there you are. Gabapentin helps, Celebrex too. I'm in Brazil not the Uk. But I'm becoming a specailist on treatments and physiotherapy! Been suffering for almost a year now. Great to be able to exchange ideas....
