Had a routine visit with my surgeon yesterday and he's really happy with how my R-TKR is going altho I've still got a few issues. I was telling him how my left knee which was as bad as my right was stopping me from alot of exercises which he understood .. and he asked when did I want the next one done and I just replied with asap. Next thing he said I can give you a date and I'm thinking to myself oh yeah it'll be like the first one and a 4wk wait and he comes back and says 8am Monday and I go this Monday and he says yes .. sort of hit me when I was expecting about a months wait .. he said he had a cancellation and he might as well slip me in to get it over and done with.
I'm so looking forward that I'll finally be able to get further with both knees in time .. but at the same time as much as my left knee is so painful and hinders alot of what I do I'm sad that I'll no longer have the feeling of a normal knee .. as after 11mths I'm still not used to the feeling of my new knee. But in saying that I know it's something that has to be done.
For those of you that don't know my story I was run over by a truck that totally wrecked both knees and alot of other things .. but getting my knees approved by the government insurance company as they are responsible for all my injuries and bills initially took them 6yrs to approve my knee surgeries .. they were apprehensive as they were the biggest expense for them and if anything ever happens to them they are responsible for the rest of my life.
Thanks for listening... Tracey

That's how my first TKR came about - a cancellation and I barely had time to prepare. If you still feel it's too soon, then take a later time.

Hi Lynn .. honestly I just want it done so over all of this and hopefully having this one done will so help the other one! They do say each knee is different so fingers x'd that this one has no issues

Dear Tracey -wow, nothing like making a quick decision! Do it...move on to getting that other knee fixed and ready to go. Knowing you have had success with your right knee, keep positive thoughts for the same results with left knee. I'll be thinking of you Monday and know you'll be done and on the road to recovery. Keep us posted

Definitely going thru with it .. have spent the last 2 days at hospital having everything you could think of done so they know I'm healthy and ready .. just makes me laugh a bit that my first tkr which still has issues is now going to be my good leg

Oh you've been through hell! I know. I can't believe you had to wait so long to get the surgery done. At least it will be behind you and hopefully you'll be feeling somewhat better by the holidays. I hope your good leg doesn't bother you too much as now it's gonna have to do most of the work for awhile. I'll be thinking of you Monday. Prayers

Hi Barb .. thanks so glad I don't have thinking time I definitely wouldn't change my mind as at first the surgeon said which knee did I want done first as one was bad as the other and here in Australia the best ortho surgeons don't like performing bilaterals and prefer to wait a minimum of 6mths b4 they do another.

I thought the same thing Deborah as I'm reading so many of these posts! It's pathetic to have to wait !

Oh my. I didn't even think of it that way! Yes waiting six years for government red tape is unacceptable! Thank you for bringing that to everyone's attention. Then we would all have to wait and IF we get approved for surgery we would have to get it ASAP before they changed their minds. It's so scary but that's what Socialized medicine is all about. Hillary will just continue down the same path. We have to make sure that doesn't happen or were doomed. It's a sad state of affairs.

Thank you Deborah .. and totally agree 6yrs of waiting, sitting not being able to do anything except gain 3 dress sizes is so unfair when you're a victim. And we pay a hefty insurance to cover road injuries in our registration renewal every year .. if that's not paid on time you can't drive .. but when it's them forking out the money it's a different story!!!
Hope all goes well in the US for you all!

Hi Renee and this year 7yrs later after my accident as I also suffered head injuries they have just approved to pay for all my migraine meds that I've been having to buy since the accident and no back pay from the lousy buggers!!!
Be very aware of what can happen .. insurance companies are the worst and I think the government one is the worst!!!

Tracey you are kidding me! No back pay for your meds. That is ridiculous! My goodness you have suffered haven't you. God bless and good luck with your surgery. Yikes.

Tracey lol only us women would be upset over gaining 3 dress sizes! "And the worst part about about getting hit by a truck..." I'm chuckling to myself!
