Xmas Drinks Plus Sert?

Hi everyone

Today's the start of week 11 on sertraline, currently on 75mg. I'm not a big drinker at all (I got that all out of my system in my 20s!) but with xmas coming up I'd like to join in with a few tipples here n there! I just wondered if anyone had any advice or experience of alcohol and sert? What the effect is? Would it be better to take less or no sert on a day when I know ill be drinking? I'm not planning on getting blotto, and I know alcohol is a depressant but I just feel I deserve to let loose a bit just for a few days smile

Best wishes xx

I don't know but sure your GP would be happy to advise.

Prob yea tho I'd imagine they'd be obliged to just advise not to drink whereas I'd prefer to ask ppl who've actually experienced it.

I understand not to drink on any medication and Anti-Depressant is so you don't feel depressed. But not drinking and seeing everybody else drunk. Is going to make me more depressed LOLOL

I'm thinking it might make sense to do a little trial run at home...might just have a few and see what happens so I'd know what to expect and how to pace it xx

    Hi Kiki,

I drank on the first week of my sertraline and I can say I've had a bad experience it might be the age (im 18) but I never drink anyway however alcohol had a big effect on me. I must of had a seizure and ended up in hospital.

My advise do not drink if you don't know when to stop..

    Xx

    Hello.

I have been on sertraline 150mg per day for over 2 years, I have had alcohol only when on holiday, I have found 3-4 pints lager are fine without any problems.

I also take50 mg amitryptelene as well with no side effects.

At the end of the day it is down to the individual to decide what to do.

I am not condoning using alcohol and Sertraline.

Hi kikidee I have been drinking on sertraline though know I shouldnt. I haven't noticed anything that bad with it but suspect the side effects get more pronounced. I also very easily got a bad headache from it. So would advise just go easy. The effect of alcohol seems amplified with your mess so you will feel slightly hungover. I did completely cut drink out a few weeks ago and really did feel much better for it. So I will cut it out again completely (or just on occasion) after the Christmas period. I'm obviously not suggesting it's good to drink at all with setraline but if your careful and drink lots of water I'm sure a couple over the festive period shouldn't kill you. But watch out for the headaches. They were really nasty ones and that would spoil it all for you. All the best. X

Also I will add that if you do have a binge you will probably throw up. I had a night out with friends and drank the amount I was usually fine with and was so ill I thought I was dying. But having one or two, with soft drinks or water or both preferably, is much better. I do feel masses better on the meds when I don't drink. I also bought some necks blue alc free beers and made shandys out of them so you feel and look like you are joining in. That works. Have fun and watch how you go.
