Yin and Yang - Hot Flashes and What Helps

First you will need to determine what type of body you are, you can google and determine this. Most women (70%) will be yin, but there are also two types of yin and two types of yang.

My reading says that if you are Yin these are foods and supplements that can help reduce hot flashes:

Vitamin E - supplement with lowest recommended dosage, foods: wheat germ oil, canola oil, sunflower oil - nourishes yin and anchors yang heat

Flaxseed - supplement with lowest recommended dosage, original form - nourishes and supports the function of the liver, lungs, and large intestines

Soybeans - not compatible

Magnesium - tolerable in food but not recommended as a supplement, eat dark leafty greens, pumpkin seeds, cashews, almonds, seafood, beans, whole greens, avocados, yogurt, bananas - promotes the downward flow of energy, roots the mind and spirit

Sage - very compatible, original form or as a supplement - promotes harmonious flow of yang heat throughout the body

Wild (Chinese) Yam - very compatible, original form (can be found in Asian food markets or as a supplement) - supports and nurtures yang energy, and to a lesser degree yin energy

If you are Yang body type:

Vitamin E - very compatible (see above)

Flaxseed - supplement with the lowest recommended dosage (see above)

Soybeans - very compatible, original form or in tofu, tempeh, soy-based yogurt - nourishes yin and has cooling energy

Magnesium - supplement with the lowest recommended dosage (see above)

Sage - not compatible

Wild (Chinese) Yam - tolerable but not recommended (see above)

Also for Yin Type A - Black cohosh relieves hot flashes, headaches, throat issues, coughing, acid stomach, acne, tinnitus, nausea, and sinus congestion.

Yin Type B - Benzoin (found as an essential oil) - calms anxiety, uplifts emotions, relieves indigestion, addresses pain in the chest/abdomen from food stagnation, and alleviates coughing.

Yang Type A - Lycium bark relieves hot flashes, excessive sweating, dry/painful skin and indigestion.

Yang Type B - Bamboo shavings relieve hot flashes, stomach acid, vomiting, nausea, gastroesophageal reflux, excessive sweating and/or thirst, irritability and anxiety.

I was just told recently by two doctors that we have to be careful with black cohosh because it supposedly causes damage to the liver. I’ve been taking it for at least 12 years. when I ask my pharmacist who is a genius, he said that that’s if you already have a compromised liver. But I’m not a doctor and I’m not saying that for sure. I’m just putting that out there. But I continue to take it. Because it helps majorly with my hot flashes. What I’d like to say also is I think a lot of people give up too quick on trying something, we have to stick with it for a period of time to make a difference. Also on another subject, does anybody on this forum get nightmares from melatonin. I know my husband through the years has had nightmares from it. And I was told at Trader Joe’s by one of the stockers that she specifically had nightmares from theirs. And I have found consistently with this new melatonin that I’m taking as a liquid form, sublingual. I have nightmares every night with it. I never made the connection. Last night it was like watching horror movies back to back, I would wake up go back to sleep and there I was in another nightmare. One of them was I was kind of stuck in this crawlspace and I literally woke up having trouble breathing. unfortunately this melatonin was excellent but I will have to stop taking it. anyway thank you to Suzanne again and I hope everyone has a great day 😃

lycium bark and bamboo leave may cause stomach issue. Do not use too much. normally 3-9 g. They do work for me. If you have cough with yang type body, you can add a little bit 3g-9g of Mulberry leaf .

Melatonin gave my husband nightmares too and I remember someone else years ago say it gave them nightmares. So I never took it because I have nightmares and very vivid dreams without it.

Melatonin gave me wonderful vivid dreams, not so much nightmares. But after a year it alsogave me vertigo, because was somehow contributing to sinus and ear congestion. So I had to stop. Now I have to deal with sweating-it is bad. Any suggestions?

Anetta, did you have the crystals checked in your ear, that is what supposedly vertigo really is. I have never heard of a connection between that and melatonin ? I know Menopause has a lot to do with sinus infections. I had used the black cohosh for years for the hot flashing.

This is terrific Suzanne, props to you for finding this terrific information. I basically consume all of these items. Can I ask, do you know why it recommends not to take the magnesium as supplements, is it not a true form, even if the supplements are very high grade? Thank you again 😃

magnesium is yin staff, if your body is yin type, you take it, which makes your body more unbalance. But majority women in meno are short of yin.
