Hi. I wonder if any can help and answer a simple question - does IBS pain swap sides and cause pain on the right hand side over the hip and on that side towards the groin, i am female 45 and have been told i have IBS for 10+ years. I feel this is the wrong diagnosis. I am due a coeliac screening soon as my symptoms have got out of control this year. Does this sound like coeliac disease or IBS to any of you. Desperate for answers, been in non-stop this year!!!! Please help if you can, thanks.

coeliac disease is mostly in the upper abdomen. it can go lower but its predominately in the upper small intestine and it would be on both sides

IBS isn't one specific thing. Doctors use it as a term which covers a multitude of different symptoms. Two people can have totally different symptoms but still have IBS. Not everyone has pain but it can occur on either side. Try not to worry too much.

Thanks for the 3 caring people for responding, i thought i didn't have coeliac disease, my ibs flares in time of stress and money causes the most stress as well as ill health, LOL but not really! I mean other versions of ill health. The pain is bad today but i have still struggled on like you do. I have taken some Nurofen. Is a constipated bowel the cause of this type of pain?

Hey Sam, My IBS also started from right groin Pain which radiated to my right thigh. And about coeliac disease mainly you feel bad when you eat gluten and it comes with rash which is very very itchy....the antibody tests and duodenum biopsy can confirm your diagnosis, But you cannot differentiate between IBS or coeliac according to the site or characteristic of pain.
