zopiclone withdrawal is kind of the worst

Posted , 5 users are following.

I've been taking this daily for about 4 months now and as of running out of refills I've finally hit rock bottom. Anxious/Heart races all night/twitching constantly when im trying to sleep. I just don't understand why they give you a prescription of 60 days worth to begin with if it is this addictive. I've read it can take up to a couple weeks to feel normal again, and i mean as of now i've only been off it for a couple days. I'm struggling. Can anyone recommend anything to help with these symptoms? it would help me a lot.

    Hi there

my goodness everyone seems relatable tonight,

see this is thing about Zopiclone it’s only supposed to be given for short period I said this to someone else earlier. 2/3 weeks! A hypnotic to trick the bran into thinking it’s bed time then... after that time it supposed to give you a sleep pattern back if you take it at the same time each night. Then no more  Zopiclone!!

i will say I’m On them well I’ve been prescribed them for six years!! No med review and they put them up a while back too 3.75 mgs too 7 mgs. I do not take them every night because I know I would have an addiction to them. It came.  I stayed on them at first for 2 years then I wanted to see if I could do without. Well it didn’t make any difference to my sleep with them it was terrible and still is.

Though I remember coming off them I was not quite right.

restless a little hot/ cold  heart racing and headaches.

it didn’t last that long like you were told maybe a couple weeks, thought did feel longer!

Could you try a herbal sleeping pill possibly?

This is what I did ...try relaxing yes try! bath in lavender it’s very calming! Breathing exercises longer out than in. It does help with the heart racing. I also took herbal sleeping pills for 2 weeks

It’s wrong to give these meds without saying about withdrawal e abuse they’ve put you on them too long. I feel for you.

it will get better it’s the fear of the unknown how long ???

hang in there it will get better.

your legs you say are restless although  you may not feel like it try to wear them out sound silly but I walked and walked back then I was shattered so did fall asleep and they didn’t play up.

ihope you find this comforting you will be ok I was worried about an addiction to them that’s why I stopped never will I be on them for long spells again.

The drs should tell there patients more about this drug for sure,,

wishing you well take it day by day

    Hi Restless

I can relate to what your going through right now. I was on Zopiclone for around 3 months and although it did help me sleep, I began to get really bad WD's from them as they have a short half life (5-7hrs). Towards the end, I wasn't even getting a full nights sleep because the WD would kick in. The anxiety and panic attacks were horrid.

I had to go to my GP and explain what was happening and I was taken off immediately, put on a mood stabilizer and a longer acting benzo (low does) to help get me through the WD's. They lasted a good week but each day got better and better.

The way I see it, you have 2 options

Try tapering off of it or

Go see your GP/Dr. and be honest with them about what your going through.

    Good luck and god bless

    Hi Ronald,

I've been in your place before and it is terrible ..

I ended up tapering slowly. Still had sleepless nights at each drop but not such bad anxiety etc..

I suggest you google the "Ashtons Manuel" and have a read so that you understand what is happening to your brain with the sudden cold turkey...it will put you on the right path to getting off this in the kindest way.

I dropped by cutting my tablet into pieces..not very accurate but I did it..

If you are armed with this info and take it to your doc, he may see sense and let you wean off instead of cold turkey...I hope so anyway.

It annoys me so much when docs can play god with people's emotions and mental health and just cut them off after not telling them they will be addicted..too much of this happening...

I hope you see some light at the end of the tunnel soon. Just keep thinking that it WILL get better...not very easy I know when your in that state..but it will..

    The very best of wishes
