UK's first GP appointment booking app wins prestigious innovation award

The Patient Access mobile app, the UK's first GP appointment booking app, is the winner of the Innovation Award in the Medilink Yorkshire & Humber Healthcare Business Awards 2013.

This free app, provided by the UK's leading independent health information website, enables patients to securely book their GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and view their medical record online via their mobile device.

Commenting after the awards announcement and presentation at Leeds Royal Armouries held yesterday, Ben Foster, Operations Director at, said: "We are delighted to win this award, which recognises the impact and benefits of this app, for both patients and GP practices.

"We launched the app in March 2013, to enhance our existing Patient Access service. The app gives patients even more flexibility and convenience in managing their healthcare. It's basically like having a GP receptionist, in the palm of your hand, 24/7. And practices love it because it frees up staff time to focus on other vital and increasing work."

The Medilink Awards, held in partnership with the Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Science Network (AHSN), celebrate the achievements of Healthcare Technology and related Life Sciences companies from across Yorkshire and Humber.

Winners of the Yorkshire & Humber Awards are now entered into the Medilink UK Awards, where they will compete with other organisations from across the UK for the national title. The Medilink UK Awards take place on April 2 at the Med Tech Innovation Expo, held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
