The Scottish Cot Death Trust was formed in 1985 with the following three aims.

  • To fund research into the cause(s) of cot death.
  • To support bereaved families and ensure provision of breathing monitors for infants born into a family which has suffered a cot death.
  • To educate the public and health care professionals about cot death.

The Trust provides information leaflets, free of charge, for professionals and bereaved families as well as contact with a fieldworker. They can also provide a 'befriender', a parent who has suffered a cot death in the past, and counselling.
