Vietnamese Mental Health Services (VMHS) provides services for Vietnamese people with mental health difficulties and their families living in London and beyond. (The service covers England and Wales.) VMHS' aims are to increase access to adequate and appropriate health and social care for all Vietnamese people who have mental health difficulties and for their carers; and to provide a quality, culturally sensitive service to these people. The VMHS is a charitable organisation providing the following services for the Vietnamese community in London and beyond.

  • Partnership with other agencies.
  • Outreach service.
  • Counselling service.
  • Drop-in facility.
  • Support for carers and for children of mentally ill parents.
  • Supported accommodation for Vietnamese people.
  • Training and education about mental health issues for Vietnamese people, about Vietnamese cultures and beliefs in mental health for non-Vietnamese professionals. Booklets are published in Vietnamese and Chinese.

Access to these services is available through referrals from the health and social services and other agencies, from Vietnamese community groups, and self-referrals. The key criteria for referrals are mental health difficulties and relevant problems including those of Vietnamese refugees.
