Achilles Rupture, with a Talus fracture and ruptured peronues longus and peronues brevis tendons

As I have been reading all the forums on the recovering time and to get an idea of what everyone else has experienced I think it's scarry how so many doctors treat differently. My husband and I moved this past winter here to the sunny state of Texas and never dreamed I would be spending the past 4 1/2 months crippled up and dealing with such an extreme injury.  Just my own observation from reading these forums, this seems to be a very common injury amongst all ages. I've also taking note that pretty much everyone experiences about the same thing, from feeling drepressed to body aches everywhere and the long slow healing process that this injury intales. I'm 55 and had a bicyling accident on April 23rd, went to walk on clinic and had xray but the doctor on duty said he didn't see any broken bones. Second week out I went back and this time a different doctor, he took another xray and agreed that there was more damage than what the xray showed.  He ordered a MRI which showed my worst nighmare, was sent to a foot specialist and had surgery 3weeks and 4 days later. Surgery went not as expected and had some additional repairs while they were repairing the achilles. I'm 12 weeks post op and have had a small infection on incision, which is slowly healing. Other wise I have a great Foot doctor and PT that work as a team.  I'm sick of the scooter and crutches and now up to 75 percent of weight baring. The rest of my body is really out of condition and don't sleep real well because of joint pain, mainly in elbow and shoulders from leaning to much on crutches. I'm getting the impression that a full recovery could be 18 - 24 months time. This has been a very helpful forum to find and helps me to know what I have to look forward to. I'm a very determined and stuborn at 55, mind still thinks I'm in my 20 and 30's but the body says something different. So what I'm learning from this experience is patience and the people here in Texas are the most kind hearted people I have ever met.biggrin

Hey Cynthia. Looks we both injured ourselves on the exact same day. Mine was playing soccer though. And I'm in the UK. And don't have surgery.

My boot has been off for about about a month now. Physio every week and still had a wedge in my trainers and not suppose to walk without those. I have been a little round the house though, very carefully. And I'm no where near being back to normal. Physio says we'll start running in a week, which should be interesting.

Still quite swollen too. Going to take a long time!

I went to the doctor yesterday and now 100% weight baring but have to be very careful. I'm finding that the more I try to do during the day the repercussions at the end of the day and all night are keeping me up with pain. I will be flying home back to Michigan this weekend and nervous about the getting around at the airport. Hopefully they will be helpful and accomidate me to my next connecting flight so I don't have to hobble around. The doctor wants me to keep the boot for awhile to slowly ween away from it, I'm good with the plan being I don't feel 100% conifident without it. Not only do I have the achillies mending I also fractured the Talus and ruptured two  other tendons on the side of the foot. Which is why I have to be extra careful
